Make a Baggy T Shirt Fitted
Baggy t-shirts aren't to everyone's taste. Making a baggy one fitted isn't that hard and is one great way to keep a t-shirt with a terrific design and still get a perfect fit.
Steps
- Assemble the items needed. Namely, the large t-shirt, a fitted t-shirt and sewing supplies. See "Things You'll Need" below for exact details.
- Turn the t-shirt inside out.
- Iron the t-shirt flat and remove all wrinkles.
- Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface.
- Lay a fitted t-shirt that does fit you well over the large t-shirt.
- Using a marker, trace around the fitted t-shirt, allowing for a half-inch (12.7mm) seam allowance. If the sleeves are large, include them in the tracing.
- Cut away the excess fabric.
- Using a seam ripper or scissors, remove the stitching from the hem of each sleeve and the lower hem of the t-shirt.
- Using the sewing machine set to double stitching, restitch each side of the t-shirt following the new lines. Also stitch underarm seams.
- Restitch the hem of each sleeve and the lower hem by hand. This ensures a more exact finish.
- Turn your t-shirt right side out. Enjoy the new fitted t-shirt in your wardrobe!
Tips
- If you're not sure how the baggy t-shirt will end up appearing, pin the baggy shirt before you start cutting (safety pins might be better), and try it on inside out. Adjust the fit as needed, then start cutting and sewing.
- Seam allowance is the amount of fabric that extends beyond the stitching.
Warnings
- Take care not to cut over images you want to keep as part of the fitted t-shirt.
- Use caution with sharp or hot tools, such as scissors, needles or an iron.
