Make a Coca Cola Slurpee

A Slurpee is an in ice-based drink originally created by the ICEE Company but sold by 7-Eleven convenience stores. Similar drinks are known as the "Froster" and the "Slush Puppy." They are widely consumed in the United States, Australia and Canada. In fact, Winnipeg, Manitoba has been the Slurpee Capital of the World for the last 12 years because they have maintained the highest consumption per capita of slurpees world wide. Slurpees are sold in over 25 flavors and many are made with popular soda pop products like Coca-Cola, Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew. This article will tell you how to make a Coca-Cola Slurpee.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups ice
  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ to ½ cup sugar
  • 1 can Coca-Cola

Steps

  1. Pour 4 cups (946 g) of ice into a blender. Process it until it is crushed. You may need to do this in a few batches, depending upon the size and strength of your blender.
  2. Pour the crushed ice into a container and place it in the freezer, to be used later.
  3. Pour 2 cups (473 ml) of water into the empty blender.
  4. Add ¼ to ½ cup (48 to 96 g) of sugar to the water.
    • If you want to limit your sugar intake, feel free to leave the sugar out of the recipe. Slurpees are traditionally very sweet and the added sugar helps to make a richer flavor that isn't diluted by ice.
  5. Blend the mixture thoroughly.
  6. Pour 1 can (12 oz. or 355 ml) of Coca-Cola into the blender and blend for 10 seconds.
  7. Take the crushed ice out of the freezer and pour it into the blender. It may become extremely fizzy when the ice is poured in. Wait until it is less fizzy and blend it for 15 seconds.
    • Make sure there is enough ice to cover the Coca-Cola. Add more ice and blend again until crushed, if it does not.
  8. Pour into a glass, insert a straw and drink your homemade Slurpee immediately. This batch will serve approximately 4 people.

Tips

  • Adjust the Slurpee recipe by replacing the Coca-Cola with a packet of unsweetened, flavored Kool-Aid to achieve a more traditional Slurpee flavor.
  • You can make a Coca-Cola Slurpee in an ice cream maker as well. Pour 4 cold cans (48 oz. or 1. 5l) of Coca-Cola in an ice cream maker and allow it to process for at least 20 minutes before drinking.

Warnings

  • The Surgeon General suggests you limit the amount of sugar and sodas that you drink, as they can be harmful to your health.
