Make a Coin Appear in Someone's Pocket

With a little sleight of hand and a single shiny coin, you can make a friend's day! Make a coin "magically" appear in someone's pocket to watch him or her go crazy trying to figure out how it got there.

Steps

  1. Find two pennies. Make sure they look the same.
  2. Look for someone with a coat on and whose coat pocket is open and easy to access. Don't try jean pockets because they're too tight, and the person will notice. Sometimes a person's pocket is creased open, in which case you can slip it in without them noticing.
  3. Take one of the coins and slip it in their coat pocket without them noticing! It is very important that they have no idea you touched them!! Or the trick won't work.
  4. Wait awhile before you perform the trick on the person in whose pocket you placed the coin. This way they don't get suspicious.
  5. When the time is right tell the person you are going to make a coin disappear. Do not tell them you will make it appear in their pocket.
  6. Do a simple coin-disappearing trick like rubbing your hands together and dropping the coin down your sleeve, or if you know another one use that one.
  7. Wait for the person's reaction. After you have made the other coin disappear, the person may say something like it's down your sleeve or it's in your hand. Casually tell them to check their coat pocket. They should be very amazed.

Tips

  • Make sure they don't know you slipped the coin into their pocket, and don't try something like saying, "Hey, look over there." This might distract them for a moment, but they'll remember it when you tell them the coin is in their pocket.
  • This works better if the person is wearing the coat. You can take it a step further and show them the year of the coin so they can think that is the coin that reappeared.

Warnings

  • Hope to god that the person isn't usually carrying their coins in their pockets! Some street magicians and pickpockets don't think about such things most of the time.
  • Don't repeat this trick to the same person right away.
  • Ugg boots might look like the perfect place to slip your coin. Don't. Many people don't wear socks with Uggs, and they will freak out at the sudden feeling of cold metal on their ankle or foot.
  • Don't attempt this trick with someone who might freak out if they catch you attempting to put the coin in their coat (Unless freaking them out is the purpose).
