Steps
Using Wax
- Start with an empty plastic cup.
- Take a small piece of wax and stick your thumb to the side of the cup.
- Push your thumb out to create the illusion that the cup is levitating.
- Wriggle your thumb about. It should look like the cup is dancing
Making a Thumb Hole
- Start with an empty or nearly empty Styrofoam cup. The larger the cup, the better.
- Tip the cup to your mouth as if you're drinking from it.
- As you're drinking, stick your thumb through the back of the cup (the part that the audience can't see).
- As you bring the cup down, stretch out your fingers and push out your thumb to show that you are not holding the cup, and it will appear to levitate in your hand.
Using a String
- Start with a paper cup (empty).
- Take a needle and poke a hole in the bottom of the cup.
- Afterward, take a string (that is transparent) and poke it through the hole you made and tie a knot at the bottom of the cup.
- Finally tie the string to your index finger and put your hand under and move your finger slowly move it up and down and your friends think it's levitating.
Tips
- In method 2, do not make any noise when you stick your thumb through the cup. You can even try ripping it a little beforehand.
Warnings
- Wax can be hot; be careful!
- Be careful with needles, you don't want to poke yourself!
