Make a Dry Erase Board from Aluminum Foil
A dry erase board is a very convenient accessory for anyone who uses a desk or bulletin board. But did you know you don't have to visit your local office aisle to get one? With these steps, you can create your own dry erase board for just about free using supplies found in a common household.
Steps
- Gather all your materials: aluminum foil, a large piece of cardboard regardless of size, glue (preferably a glue stick), scissors and a dry erase marker.
- Measure your piece of cardboard. The foil will be cut a half-inch on the sides and tops from the cardboard. For example, if your cardboard is a 5"x 6", the foil will be a 4"x 5".
- Cut the foil to the exact size.
- Color the cardboard a color you would like. You don't have to color the whole piece, but color to at least a half inch away from the edges in all directions.
- Glue the foil on top of the cardboard. Try to line them up so it looks even, and avoid wrinkles as best as possible. It is done by using a rolling pin or anything to squish out wrinkles and air bubbles.
Tips
- If you don't want it to break glue a piece of paper to the back of the foil
- To erase, just use a dry piece of paper towel. If it doesn't come off, use Windex, but be careful not to scrub too hard.
- Try to glue down the foil sections one at a time so it won't wrinkle.
- Spray-on adhesive applied to the back of the foil and the cardboard works great in place of normal glue.
- Also, If you want you can add a magnet to the board, just cut a skinny rectangle of magnetic material just smaller than the board's width, glue it to the board, and let it dry. That way, you can stick it on your fridge or anything else.
Things You'll Need
- Cardboard (any size you desire)
- Foil (half an inch in all directions from the lengths of the cardboard)
- Scissors
- Glue (preferably a glue pen; spray glue may also work well)
- Markers, crayons, colored pencils, stencils, whatever pattern(s) you would like for the border
