Make a Fishtail Bracelet with a Rainbow Loom

You got a Rainbow Loom kit for Christmas? Congrats! You've mastered the basic stitch of rubber band bracelets, so what stitch to learn, now? A fishtail bracelet, of course! It's easy and fun.

Steps

Method one: With loom

  1. Choose the color of the bands you're going to use. Use two colors when you're starting out and three when you have a bit more experience.
  2. Stretch the first rubber band into an infinity shape and place it on the first two pegs on the side sections. Push the rubber band down.
  3. Place the next rubber band on top of the first one. You don't need to twist it.
    • Add the third rubber band on top of the second.
  4. Take the hook, grab a loop from the first band, and stretch it onto the third. Do the same for the other loop.
  5. Take your next rubber band, and stretch it over the other two rubber bands.
    • Take the rubber band at the bottom, stretch half of it onto the top rubber band. Do the same for the other half.
  6. Continue until your bracelet is the length you want it to be.
  7. Take the rubber band bracelet (and the two bands they're on) off the loom. Just slide the other two rubber bands off.
  8. Take a C clip and put one part of the clip on one end, then connect it on the other end.
  9. Finished.

Method two: Without Loom

  1. For this, you only need your index and middle finger.
  2. Stretch a band into an infinity shape. Place one loop on your index finger, and the other one on your middle finger.
  3. Put another rubber band on both fingers, but don't twist it.
  4. Put a third band on top of both.
  5. Use a hook, or your fingers, to stretch the loops of the first band to the third band. Do it on your middle finger first.
  6. Then do it on your index finger.
  7. Do the same as you would with the loom.
  8. Finished.

Tips

  • You can use a crochet hook instead of the plastic hook the loom comes with! Crochet hooks are better because they're metal, so they can't break, unlike the plastic hook. Another option would be to buy a Rainbow Loom metal-tipped hook!
  • Use two colors that match (i.e. blue and purple or yellow and orange).

Warnings

  • Be careful of the circulation in your fingers; if they go red take the bands off!
  • Sometimes the bands will break. If it does, throw it away.

Things You'll Need

  • Rainbow Loom
  • Rainbow Loom Bands
  • The included hook or a crochet hook
