Make a Hair Wrap
Learn how to make a beautiful colored hair wrap that is suitable for any age or head of hair.
Steps
- Start by choosing a color or multiple colors. Which can be bought at any arts and crafts store. TO USE
- Cut pieces (one of each color) that are three times the length of the hair being wrapped. (Make sure scissors, your beads or charms are in arms reach before you start)
- Choose a piece of hair, for this hair wrap a chunk or hair about 1/8” -1/4” in diameter. Starting from the root, braid this piece of hair very tight and use the hair tie to hold it at the end. You do not need to braid all the way down, you can leave about and inch of hair free at the bottom.
- Take the color(s) of string you have chosen by one of the ends and tie a small knot around the hair. Try to get as close to the root as possible.
- Take the color you want to start with and hold the rest of the colors tightly with the braid
- To start wrapping, take the string and tightly wrap it all the way around the braid. The tighter and closer each wrap is, the longer the wrap will last.
- To change colors, just grab which one you want and hold the first color against the braid.
- Repeat the last two steps until you get to the end of the braid.
- If you chose to put on a charm, slip one of your choice around the color you are using.
- Continue wrapping for three or four more wraps.
- To tie off the end you can simply just tie a regular knot. Make it a double or a triple knot so it does not slip.
- You can tuck it up under the last wrap so it does not show as much.
- Finished.
Tips
- Try to keep the wraps as tight as possible. The wrap will last longer and look better.
- choose beads that are on the smaller side, and are not damaged by water. Hair wraps can last a very long time and you will shower and style your hair with it in.
- At the end of the braid use little mini elastics so that it does not untie.
- Be alert when brushing your hair you don't want your wrap to come out with your hair!
- make sure you have everything in arms reach, you will always be holding the hair so it doesn't slip and you don't want to be dragging your 'model' around the room.
- Do this carefully so your hair doesn't get tangled.
- Use 2 or more colors, most likely 3-4, for an array of color.
Things You'll Need
- At least one 3' strand of yarn (or more if you want to wrap with multiple colors)
