Make a Heavy Metal Battle Jacket

You've seen those really killer jackets. You know you want one. Here's how.

Steps

  1. Gather the materials.
    • Denim Jacket. Black or blue is good, make sure it fits you. Thrift store jackets are cheaper, and already broken in. If you are going to cut off the sleeves to make a Kutte, realize that it gives you less space.
    • Patches. Get patches with band logos, album art, or cool sayings. Skulls are cool, but only if they are truly metal. DO NOT get any patches of bands/albums you do not listen to.
      • Back Patch (optional). Can be bought, or get a (preferably black) band T-shirt that no longer fits you/is ripped/you'd prefer to be a jacket, and cut out the design on the front, then sew the piece of cloth with the design onto the back of the jacket.
    • Studs/Spikes. These are optional, but they look really cool if you add them. They can be found by doing a quick Google search. From there you just look for a good price.
    • Chains. If you can find any chains that are light enough not to weigh you down, like a dog chain or the like, then go for it.
    • Needle and Thread, and Iron. Get black thread, it blends in the best with most materials. Also procure an Iron, for use on those really small patches that have wax on the back and are way too hard to sew on.
  2. Form an idea.
  3. Start pinning the articles into place. You want to attach them, without doing it permanently, to get a feel for how the finished product will look.
  4. If it will be layered, Start sewing things on, from what will be beneath everything, out.
  5. Stop and look frequently to make sure you still like where you are headed.
  6. Take your jacket out and show your friends!
