Make a Homemade Record Player
So you want to learn how to make a record player? It sounds hard but isn't actually that bad.
Contents
Steps
- First buy a small electric motor with a long shaft.
- Hook it up to a battery to make sure it works.
- Buy a light switch. This will be your on/off switch for the record player.
- Hook up the light switch in between the battery and the motor.
- Buy some masking tape.
- Wrap the tape around the shaft coming from the motor until it reaches the size of the hole in the record.
- Make sure the record fits tightly. If it doesn't, add more tape.
- Get a piece of paper.
- Roll the paper in such a way so that it looks like a megaphone. Make the small end very small.
- Get a pin or unbent paper clip and put it through the hole. Tape the paper so that it stays in place around the pin or paper clip.
- Turn on the motor and touch the pin or paper clip to the spinning record.
- The record should play.
Tips
- If the record plays too slow, speed up the motor with a bigger battery or get a faster motor.
- If the record plays backwards reverse the wires coming to the switch.
- Have fun and be patient.
- If the record plays too fast, get a slower motor or a smaller battery.
Warnings
- Never ever use this method on a good record. Records are fragile; normal needles degrade them a little and this method degrades them a lot.
