Make a Paper Orchid

Here is an easy-to-fold paper orchid that can be used for decorations or display.

Steps

  1. Start by placing the origami paper white-side-up. Crease the paper in half diagonally, both ways.
  2. Unfold the paper all the way. Then, Fold Eternally Opening Origami it in half (as shown in the picture), both ways.
  3. Unfold the last two folds you have just made, and make sure you have the same pre-creasing as that shown in the picture.
  4. Make a preliminary base. You can skip this step if you know how to do it.
    • Hold the Make Paper Lilies in the middle and so that it is shaped like a diamond (this is optional, but it makes it easier).
    • Push on the crease the arrow is pointing to. It should align with the crease running right down the center, so your resulting model looks like the second picture.
    • Repeat the previous sub-step on the other side. Look at your model and compare it to the picture.
  5. Fold the right flap on the model to align with the center crease. Crease well.
  6. Unfold the crease made in the last step. Put your finger on the middle crease and open the pocket formed (shown in the first picture of this step). Move the paper over so that the crease formed in the last step is on top of the center one and flatten it out (shown in the second picture).
  7. Turn the model over and repeat the last two steps. Pinch the flaps on both sides created by the folds from the last few steps, so they are closed up by each other (as shown in the picture). Hold your model up and do this on both sides. Note the two unfolded flaps. Lay your model down so one is sticking up, and flatten it out as you did in the previous step.
  8. Turn your model over, and repeat the previous step on the unfolded flap.
  9. Fold the bottom up the meet the top and crease well. Unfold.
  10. Note the white flaps at the bottom of your Model Making. Fold them in to meet the center. Crease well, and unfold.
  11. Place your finger above the crease made above. Lift up the trapezoid-shaped pocket made by the creases. Push in on them to get it to look like the second picture.
  12. Turn the model over and repeat the previous two steps.
  13. As you did earlier, pinch these flaps on both sides together, and you will see two more flaps on the insides with the white triangles on them. Repeat for both of these.
  14. Turn the model upside-down. In no particular order, open the flap next to the ones you have folded. (They will look like the picture.)
  15. On the top end, fold the sides to meet the center. Finish turning through all the flaps and repeat this step on the ones that look like the previous picture.
  16. This is what you will get. Adjust the flaps in an order to where you have one that looks like the one you just did on the front, back, in the middle of the left and in the middle of the right.
    • Get a pencil or pen and curl the flaps at the top out.
  17. Finished orchid.
