Make a Pen Gun With a Trigger

Most people have heard of pen or pencil guns with a rubber band. This one doesn't use rubber-bands, is low maintenance, and it has a "trigger" so you can hold fire with less likeliness of accidental slipping. All you need for this particular pen gun is about 2-4 "clickie" pens, a paperclip, and a pair of pliers to bend the paperclip.

Steps

  1. Empty out the contents of the pen (ink, springs, and both ends). Don't throw away the writing end of the pen or the spring. Repeat this step with all of the pens.
  2. Gather together 1-3 more springs from the other pens.
  3. Bend the paperclip to the point where it is straight enough to fit through the writing end of the pen.
  4. Bend a section of the end 360 degrees so that there is a loop in the paperclip. The loop has to be about the same size as the springs' diameter.
  5. Adjust it where the unlooped end of the paperclip can fit through the writing end at least a good four inches and the looped end can fit down the "barrel", or tubed section of the pen with ease.
  6. Slide the desired amount of springs from the unlooped end down to be caught by the looped end.
  7. Put the paperclip with the springs on it into the pen, and stick the unlooped end through the writing end of the pen. Make sure that there is no or almost no tension on these springs.
  8. Bend the unlooped end of the paperclip 90 degrees. The goal is to keep the paperclip and springs from going out of either end.
  9. Load with a projectile (such as a wad of paper), pull the trigger (the L-shaped portion of the paperclip), and if done right, you can get the projectile to fly up to twenty feet.

Tips

  • Practice makes perfect. After a little practice, you can not only master the technique, but you can also master the aiming.
  • Don't aim too low, for the projectile may fly out.
  • This design can be edited to include bigger springs, bigger pens, rubber bands, pencils, or any of that. Just stay true to the design somewhat at the same time.
  • This same idea can be done with mechanical pencils, also.
  • Use caution while experimenting.
  • I designed this little thing myself. Give me SOME credit, please.

Warnings

  • Occasionally, you may have enough power in your pen gun to chip the writing end. This can create shrapnel and possibly hurt someone.
  • Let go of the trigger when you fire. If you only release pressure, it can catch on your hand and cut it.
  • Don't aim at animals or humans (that includes your little brother or sister)
  • Don't shoot sharp objects.
  • Especially don't aim at the face of someone of something.

Things You'll Need

  • 2-4 "clickie" pens (or pencils)
  • Pliers
  • Paperclip
  • Wad of paper or other projectile
