Make a Pipe Cleaner Bird
Pipe cleaner arts and crafts can be a fun way to entertain kids or the kid in all of us. Here are simple instructions to build a bird with five standard pipe cleaners.

Steps
Shaping the Legs
- Bend one pipe cleaner in half to form the legs. Each side, bend two "feet" as shown, both of an even length.
Forming the Body
- Shape another pipe cleaner to form the body. Use simple curves to give the outline of a bird shape (follow the image example). Attach the already bent legs about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) from tip of tail. Do this by looping the pipe cleaner twice over, winding tightly.
Adding a Head
- Move 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) from the tip of where the beak should be. At that spot, attach a pipe cleaner with a loop, and twist in a pinwheel manner to shape the the head.
- Leave enough of a length on the loop to form a beak, as shown in the image above.
Completing the Body
- Use 2 pipe cleaners to enlarge the torso. Start at the bottom of the neck and roll around loosely: First with one pipe cleaner, then continue with the second up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the end of the tail. Make any adjustments needed to balance the bird properly. Done!
Tips
- You can make larger or smaller pipe cleaner birds by appropriately re-sizing the pipe cleaners.
- Different colored pipe cleaners are available at craft shops. Mixing them up will add some color to the bird.
