Make a Summer Fruit Ice Lolly

Yummy, healthy, and great for picnics, fresh juicy ice lollies will cool down a hot summer's day. They only take a few minutes to put together, and can satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Why not try making them for your next picnic?

Steps

  1. Squeeze as much juice as you can out of 4-5 oranges or any other fruit of your choice. Keep all of the juice. An alternative is to use store-bought orange juice.
  2. Add sugar if you wish. This may not be entirely necessary depending on your tastes - remember that oranges are already full of natural sugars, and so it is better for your teeth to leave it out.
  3. Get your ice lolly moulds. If you don't have any, use a clear plastic cup. It is well worth investing in some moulds if you will be making ice lollies often.
  4. Pour the mixture into your moulds. Don't fill them all the way to the top, as the liquid will expand as it freezes.
  5. Place the top into your mould with the stick. Use a toothpick or old lolly stick if you do not have an ice lolly mould. Use tape to stick the stick firmly in place, or cover the top with cling film before poking the stick in.
  6. Take the lolly out of the mould once frozen. The time this will take depends on the size of your lollies, but as a guide, they should be frozen after about 3 hours.
  7. Lick your ice lollies and savour the flavour!

Crushed Ice Lolly

  1. Make ice with water or fruit juice/lemonade etc. in an ice mold.
  2. Once frozen through, release them from the mold.
  3. Carefully get a knife or a fork or a mash potato masher and mash the ice.
  4. For even greater results, pour whatever you made your ice from OVER the crushed ice and re-freeze.
  5. Once you have taken the ice out of the freezer, crush it again.
  6. Enjoy!

Tips

  • You could also put some pieces of fruit with your mixture instead of sticking them to a toothpick.
  • Try a different juice to change the taste! Or maybe mix two juices together... the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
  • You could try adding solid pieces of fruit - perhaps berries speared onto the toothpick? This will add a different texture and flavour.
