Make an Archery Bow
Here I will tell you how to make your very own bow. Make sure that you have adult supervision if you are a child.
Steps
- Find a piece of wood that is about as tall as your shoulder. (Taller if you are strong) Ensure that it is bendy, and is slightly curved. Or the bowstring will slap your hand when released. Which is VERY painful. In a bow, it is the bow that bends, NOT the string.
- Cut a notch about half an inch deep on each end of the bow.
- Find a string and cut the string slightly smaller than the bow. Tie a loop at each end of the string.
- Hook one loop round one of the notches. Then bend the bow until you can hook the loop into the other notch.
The arrows
- Find either a straight stick or use a wooden dowel. Whittle the arrow until smooth, if desired.
- Cut 3 triangles per arrow and stick them at intervals around the arrow
Tips
- Put the tip of the arrow over a fire to harden the tip.
- Make sure the wood you find is strong enough to withstand the activity of archery.
- If your string is loose and floppy, take off your string and cut it shorter.
- If you are hunting, you can make a slit at the top of the arrow, and slide in a sharp object.
- The arrows may not be very streamlined, so it may be better to buy some.
Warnings
- This bow is NOT a toy, it is a weapon, please ask permission from your parents if you are under 16.
- Don't underestimate it.
- Don't try to shoot any person/animal/windows.
