Make an LED Flashlight

LED flashlights last longer then flashlights with light bulbs, and are just as bright(if not brighter). Conversion kits are available for the popular MAGLITE series of flashlights. This is how to build your own.

Steps

  1. Observe the polarity of the LED and that of the batteries. Connect the LED to them via the wiring.
    • If it's a new LED, the anode (positive terminal) generally has a longer lead, but there are other ways to tell.[1]
  2. Connect the switch, resistor, and finally back to the positive end of the battery.
  3. Constructed correctly, you'll have built a working flashlight that is a LED light that will come in handy for emergency use.

Tips

  • The preferred method for connecting these parts would be soldering, but wire and electrical tape would work for the novice.
  • LEDs come in a variety of colors, including white and red, blue.
  • A battery case obtained from Radio Shack helps with connecting the batteries to the LED flashlight

Things You'll Need

  • 2 1.5V batteries
  • Super Bright LED(20mA, 3V)
  • LED holder
  • 150 ohm resistor
  • Switch
  • Wire
  • Electrical Tape
  • Multi-tool
  • Casing
