Measure Vinyl for a Small Floor
How to measure a bathroom or laundry room for a perfect fit. Walls are rarely exactly straight and this method ensures you'll get it right.
Steps
- Clear everything movable from the room.
- Tape together enough paper to nearly cover the floor area. You'll want an inch or two all around - it doesn't have to be even. Then tape the paper to the floor to hold it steady.
- Using a wide straight-edge, go all the way around the room laying the straight-edge against the wall and making a line on the other side of the straight-edge on your paper.
- Carefully pick up the paper and lay it on your vinyl, matching any pattern to the most important view of the floor.
- Using the lines you drew, place the straight edge again and this time make your lines on the outside of the straight-edge. This will duplicate the margins of the room.
- Carefully cut your vinyl with a hooked flooring blade in a utility knife.
Tips
- Be sure the paper stays put when you measure and cut.
- If you need to cut a circle like a drain, look to the kitchen for bowls or old medicine containers.
