New trend in mobile application development

According to an Industry report, soon most cars and trucks will be connected to the Internet and by 2020; about 150 million vehicles will be connected via Wi-Fi. This connectivity will change automakers from pure manufacturing into technology innovators and they will make more money with their car-mobile apps. Some carmakers already worked with Google, Apple, and Microsoft to implement technologies such as Apple’s CarPlay or Android Auto into their future cars.

An Industry analyst explained: “Today you download apps into your smartphone; in the future you download apps into your car. Your car will become another computer for many things, from access to the internet, playing games; listen to music and in the near future your car will drive itself. Apple is planning to release “iOS in the Car” in next few years and many things will change. Connected-car technology will become the next innovative thing similar to smartphone and tablet. Since most American and German spend, on the average 2 hours driving their car, per day; if the car drives itself, then many things can be done in the car; actually the car can be your own office.”

In the near future, car-apps will manage your car maintenance, scheduling service appointments, control driver-related things such as real-time navigation, streaming music and video to the car; allow owners to shop online or pay for parking automatically. These car-apps will create higher demand for mobile app developers which is already in short supply. Today nearly three-quarters of software companies cannot meet the increasing demand for more mobile applications. Many do not have the capabilities for rapid mobile app delivery to meet customers’ demand. An industry analyst wrote: “Due to the poor trainings of mobile apps developers in past few years, many do not have the right skills to develop complex mobile apps for business and automobile. Today enterprise mobile apps are not the same as the simple mobile apps created few years ago that you sell on App stores for few dollars; these new sophisticated enterprise mobile apps required highly skilled developers with proper trainings. In today’s business world, more workers are using mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets to access cloud computing services to conduct their business and they need special mobile apps. Enterprise mobility trend refers to a situation where more workers work outside the office and access company data to conduct their daily tasks. With enterprise mobile apps, they can work from anywhere, at any time, using their own device and become more productive. But company executives find that mobile enterprise app development takes too long and costs too much. The study found that most companies spend 7 to 14 months to build a single mobile app and spend more than $500,000 for each.

An analyst wrote: “There is not enough mobile applications developers available in the job market but the worst thing is due to the poor training from vocational schools or short-termed certificated trainings, most mobile developers do not have the right skills to develop large and complex mobile apps for the enterprise mobile apps and mobile car-apps. Today most companies are not happy with the way these mobile apps are developed. Programmers who are trained quickly in just few months cannot build good enterprise mobile apps that the business company needs. Most of these apps are full of bugs and take a long time to fix and become a source of frustration for many users. Few years ago, there was massive number of mobile app developers trained for the development of small applications such as the smartphone games. These simple mobile apps are not the same as the sophisticated enterprise mobile apps required by the business today. As mobile apps are getting larger and more complex, the need for proper training at university level where developers are trained in the right skills and the right tools is important.”

Today, one of the major tasks of company CIOs and IT managers is to develop the right mobile apps strategy and hiring the right enterprise mobile apps developers, most have at least a bachelor’s degree to support future business.
