Nourish Your Face Using a Banana

Your face is the most delicate and sensitive part of your body. Two of the most common problems people face is oily skin and dry skin. Face cleansers and creams can help with these issues, but sometimes, the best solution is to use natural products. Items such as bananas and honey are readily available, and can be quite effective in treating common skin issues.

Ingredients

Basic Facial[1]

  • 1 banana

Custom Facial [2]

  • 1 banana
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 grams) honey
  • 10 drops lemon juice (optional, for oily skin)
  • ½ avocado (optional, for dry skin)

Rejuvenating Facial[3]

  • ½ banana
  • 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) milk

Clarifying Facial[4]

  • ½ banana
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) honey
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 grams) cinnamon

Steps

Making a Basic Facial

  1. Mash a peeled banana in a bowl with a fork. This will make enough banana facial to last you a few days.
  2. Apply the mixture all over your face using your fingers. Take care to avoid the sensitive area around the eyes. If you have any leftovers, place them into a jar, and refrigerate them.
  3. Wait 10 to 15 minutes. During this time, the nutrients in the banana will soothe and nourish your skin. While you wait, try to keep your head upright, so that the mask doesn't slide off.
  4. Wash the mixture off using warm water and a soft face cloth. If necessary, use a gentle face cleaner. When you are done, splash your face with cool water, to seal the pores. Pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel.
  5. Use the remaining mask within 3 days. As you continue to use the facial, your face will start to feel softer. You may also notice dark marks and other blemishes disappearing as well.

Making a Custom Facial

  1. Peel a banana and mash it with a fork in a bowl. Bananas are great at exfoliating your skin, and returning that healthy glow. They are also very moisturizing.[1]
  2. Add 1 tablespoon (15 grams) of honey to the bowl. Honey is not only moisturizing, but also antibacterial. It's great for relieving dry skin and zapping blemishes.[5]
  3. Consider adding 10 drops of lemon juice if you have oily skin. Lemon juice is great for those who are fighting acne and other blemishes. It tightens pores and reduces oil.[1] It also helps exfoliate the skin.[6] Keep in mind, however, that lemon juice makes your skin extra sensitive to sunlight. It is best to use this mask at night, before you go to bed.
  4. Consider adding ½ of an avocado and an extra tablespoon (15 grams) of honey if you have very dry skin.[7] The avocado will help soften and moisturize your skin. The extra honey will help balance out the extra ingredient. It will also give your facial some extra moisturizing powder.
  5. Mash the ingredients together with a fork until everything is evenly mixed. There should be no lumps, chunks, or clumps. You want the texture to be smooth.
  6. Spread the mask over your face using your fingers. Take care to avoid the delicate area around your eyes. Place any leftovers into a jar, and refrigerate them.
  7. Wait 10 to 15 minutes.[2] During this time, the nutrients from the mask will work together to hydrate and nourish your skin. While you wait, try to keep your head as upright as possible, so that the facial doesn't slide off.
  8. Rinse the facial off using warm water and a soft cloth. If you need to, use a gentle facial cleanser. Follow up with a splash of cold water upon your face; this will seal your pores. When you are done, gently pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel.
  9. Use the remaining mask within 3 days.[7] This mask can be used daily. As you continue to use it, you'll notice a reduction in dryness and/or blemishes. Your skin will also have a healthy glow.

Making a Rejuvenating Facial

  1. Peel half a banana and mash it using a fork in a bowl. You can eat the other half, or save it for another facial.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) of milk into the bowl. You can use any type of milk: lowfat, whole, or non-fat. For something more cleansing, try hemp milk instead. It may also help reduce acne.[8]
    • Some people find that milk also helps lighten/brighten their skin.
  3. Mash the banana and milk with a fork to form a smooth paste. Make sure that there are no lumps or clumps left. You want the texture to be very smooth.
  4. Spread the mixture over your face using your fingers. Avoid the sensitive area around your eyes. If you have anything left over, discard it. Unlike the other masks in this article, this one is meant to be used once a week.
  5. Wait 30 minutes. During this time, the enzymes, proteins, minerals, and vitamins from the milk and will absorb into your skin.[9] The banana will help sooth your skin, while the milk will help soften in.
  6. Rinse the facial off with warm water and a soft cloth. If you need to, use a gentle face cleanser to get rid of any residue. Follow up with a quick splash of cold water on your face to help seal of your pores. Once you are done, gently pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel.
  7. Repeat the facial once a week for best results. Over time, you may notice fewer wrinkles and blemishes.[3]
