Paint With Granite Paint

If you are going to put a faux granite finish on your walls and you have never painted with granite paint, use the following tips to help guide you.

Steps

  1. Prepare the walls for a standard paint job.
  2. Tape off all trim and ceilings to prevent you from painting where you do not want paint. This is VERY important because once granite paint dries, it is EXTREMELY difficult to remove.
  3. Cut the room in with a high-quality paint brush.
  4. Roll the rest of the walls with a {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} roller. A smaller roller will fill up too fast and the paint will not apply properly.
  5. Once the first layer has dried, apply a second layer with a paintbrush using "X" strokes. This creates the faux effect.

Tips

  • Apply the paint with slow strokes so that it won't flick specs everywhere.
  • The most important thing to keep in mind is that this paint must be applied in a much thicker layer than normal paint. If you try to paint it in a thin layer, the granite will smear on the walls and will crumble in your roller and paint brush. Painting with granite paint is like painting with concrete - it should be thick so that it will dry properly.

Warnings

  • Again, apply this paint thick. If it is too thin, the main layer will be splotchy and the faux effect will not work!

Things You'll Need
