Play the Glass Harp
Although the harp is a beautiful instrument, the "glass harp" is not exactly as the name implies. A glass harp, in fact, is a stemmed glass filled with water. And, without much practice, you too can play a glass harp. The glass harp is commonly referred to as the "water glasses" as well.

[hide]Steps
- Use the appropriate glass. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need a crystal glass to create the sounds of a glass harp. However, the glass must have a fairly long neck, a base, and a thin bowl structure.
- Fill the glass with water.
- Put water on your strongest finger, and gently rub your finger in a counter-clockwise motion around the rim. Music should start to make itself heard.
Tips
- Make sure the whole tip of your finger is rubbing, or you may not produce a sound.
- Practice. It will take more than a few minutes to get started.
- Experiment! Find the right glasses for you, and you can eventually play a song. Get another glass just like the one you have, just shorter. Then a taller one, and so on. You'll find many ways to produce music!
- The more you fill the glass with water, the higher the pitch. Depends on the shape and size of glass though. Sometimes adding more water will make a lower pitched noise instead.
- Curved-bowl glasses are harder to work with.
Warnings
- If you go too rough on a high pitch, it may cause the glass to break, however, this is not very common.
