Play the Salad Bowl Game

There are many times when you're having a get together and need an easy to learn but fun game to get people laughing and having a good time. The Salad Bowl Game is a great option that is appealing to all ages, backgrounds and party themes.

Steps

  1. Determine the theme of your party (example: Bridal Shower, Baby Shower, Family Reunion, etc)
  2. Cut up small squares of paper (2"x2")
  3. On each slip of paper write a single word or simple phrase that correlates to your topic or theme (example: for a Bridal Shower some of your words may be: engagement ring, wedding bells etc)
  4. Once every paper has been filled in (approximately 100 pieces), fold them once over and mix them up in a bowl (your Salad Bowl)
  5. Locate your party attendees and arrange them into 2 teams (it works well if you have each team in a line or semi-circle facing each other)
  6. Choose an individual from a team to go first and set a watch or stopwatch for 30-60 seconds (your preference)
  7. The individual must take one paper at a time from the Salad Bowl and use words or motions to describe the word or phrase without saying what is actually written on the paper (rhyming is not allowed). The object is for the fellow team members to guess the word or phrase. The player continues to pull papers from the bowl until their time is up.
  8. Pass the Bowl to the next team and follow same idea.
  9. The Bowl gets passed down the line to give each team member a turn.
  10. When the Bowl is empty have the 2 teams count up their papers. The team with the most papers wins the Salad Bowl Game!!

Tips

  • Play it a second time through with the same words but you can only give one word as a clue for each paper. Then, a third round can be added performed charade-style for each paper, absolutely no word clues!
  • Be sure to keep the answered papers out of the bowl, they should be added to a pile to count up at the end.
  • Use a variety of colored paper to mimic a tossed salad.

Warnings

  • This is a game that involves participation from everyone playing. If you have a shy person at your event they can monitor the stopwatch if they don't want to be a part of the foolishness.
  • This game can be used for just about any topic or idea, be sure your words are not offensive to anyone who may be participating.
  • Be prepared for some interesting descriptions and "acting out" from your party-goers.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank paper (can be plain white or multi-colored)
  • Pen
  • A bowl
  • A watch or stopwatch
  • A group of people who need something fun to do
  • A creative mind
