Prepare for IBPS Written Exam

The banking sector is providing tremendous work opportunities for young professionals. The number of applicants choosing banking as a career is also increasing at an exponential level each year. The exam is conducted by IBPS and is administered only once a year. It is a prime requirement to properly prioritize and plan your preparations for this huge exam. This article will present you with a plan structure which will greatly help you in cracking this exam.

Steps

For General Awareness Section

  1. Understand that this is the most frightening section in IBPS examination, although it can be made easier with proper planning. You have to read newspaper daily. Try reading two newspapers, one of your local language and the other one English. This will help to improve your English reading skills.
  2. Make a separate diary to write important daily news, which you pick up by reading newspapers. Read out loud while writing news; this will help you to memorize them. Every weekend, revise entire news points collected in your diary.
  3. Make separate charts for basic general knowledge topics like country-capitals, state-capitals, states chief ministers, important government bodies cmd, Nobel prize winners, important days, etc. Revise these charts in small batches. For example, if your chart contains 80 countries-capitals, start learning them by making small batches of ten or fifteen countries at a time.
  4. Watch English news channel for a minimum of half an hour. You have to just take out one and a half hours daily to prepare for your GA section.

For the Numerical Ability Section

  1. Practice as many questions as you can from various sources like the Internet, quantitative books, etc. Concentrate more on solving these problems in minimum time as this section is the most time consuming.
  2. Concentrate on Data Interpretation questions (bar charts, pie charts, etc). Set a stopwatch in your mobile, solve a DI question, and see how much time you have taken to solve it. Practice again and again to minimize the amount of time required to solve a question. This technique helps a lot in building up speed.
  3. Don't make guesses, as this won't work in IBPS examinations. You will eventually end up securing fewer marks, as there is also negative marking in this examination.
  4. Check your accuracy. Even if you attempt fewer questions, attempt them with a high level of accuracy.
  5. Learn basic things like tables, squares, square roots, cubes, and cube roots up to 25.

For the Reasoning Section

  1. Focus only on puzzle questions, as they are difficult and time consuming.
  2. Do not waste a lot of time in solving puzzles. Attempt them in the last 15 or 20 minutes after attempting all other sections, as it is required to clear cutoff in each section.

For the English Section

  1. Understand that this is the most boring section in the exam. No matter from which book or from which tutor you study English, this section will always remain a headache. Most candidates easily clear cutoff in every section except for English. In order to clear this section, you have to read English newspapers, watch English news channels, and try to talk with your friends in English.
  2. Watch English movies with English subtitles. This will help in developing a sense in English.
  3. Purchase an English workbook and solve questions and memorize mistakes.
  4. Read English articles and columns. Keep a watch on time required by you to read the complete article. Try to minimize this time, as it will help in quick reading and understanding of passage-based questions the asked in exam.
