Programming languages
A student wrote to me: “What is the most popular programming language? How many programming language a software developer must know? Please advice.”
Answer: There are different opinions on which programming language is the most popular. Based on what I saw using in universities and from discussions with people in the software industry, I think currently Java is the most popular. Many software companies are using Java as the main programming language. Next in popular is C++ based on a high numbers of job listing from software companies. If you know Java and C++ then you would do well in the industry.
Depend on the company and the application that you do, sometime you may need to know another languages. You may find that Visual Basic, C, C#, PHP, Python, Ruby, and JavaScript are also popular. However, I think if you know one or two programming languages well, learning another language is easy.
