Rip Music from a CD to a Computer
Getting a song from a CD to a computer is a fairly simple process, as long as you have the right equipment. When you are done, you can burn it to another disk, transfer it to a MP3 player, or access it whenever you want! It's definitely worthwhile!
Steps
- Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
- Open any program that can rip the songs onto your computer. Some good programs are iTunes or Windows Media Player.
- Rip the Songs from the CD to the computer. On iTunes there is a button in the top right hand corner that says Import. On Windows Media Player there is a button that says Rip on the top of the screen, near the center.
- Note where the songs are being saved after they are copied. This file path can be found under Preferences in iTunes, or at the upper left corner of the screen in Windows Media.
- In Windows Media, click the check boxes for the songs you want to rip. If you want them all, click the check box next to Album.
- After you choose your songs, click the button in the lower right corner that says "Start Rip."
- When you are done, you can remove the CD. The music will now be in your library.
Warnings
- Some songs may be covered by copyright laws which may prevent the distribution of songs. Copying a CD for backup purposes is OK, but giving it to family and friends or selling it to the public is not.
