Search for Someone on Kik

Kik is a popular messaging app, but it can be tough finding people to chat with. Kik chats are sent using usernames, which means that searching by real names is difficult. Instead, search by your friend's username (or part of it), or use the Address Book matching feature to search your phone's contact list.

Steps

Searching by Username

  1. Understand how to add friends in Instagram. There are two ways that you can add people to your Kik contacts list: searching for them based on their Kik usernames, or by Search-for-Someone-on-Kik and find other Kik users.
  2. Ask your friend for their username. The easiest way to add people on Kik is to enter their username. Asking for your friend's username will make the whole process much easier.
  3. Tap the Talk To button. This will open the list of people you have already added to Kik.
  4. Tap the "Kik Username" field. This will allow you to enter in the username that you want to search for.
    • If you don't know the person's entire username, you can enter just part of it. You may get lots of results if your search term is very general.
  5. Tap the Magnifying Glass button. Kik will search for users that match your username search. There may be multiple results depending on how specific your search was.
  6. Tap the username. This will open the messaging screen. Once you send the person a message, they will be added to your Kik Contacts.[1]

Using Address Book Matching

  1. Open the Settings menu. You can open this by clicking the Gear icon on the main Kik screen.
  2. Select "Chat Settings". If you are using a Windows Phone or BlackBerry, select "Privacy".
  3. Tap "Address Book Matching". This feature scans your phone's contact list to see if any of your contacts use Kik and also have the Address Book Matching feature turned on. You will need to agree by tapping "Yes".
  4. Enter your phone number. This will be used by Kik for your friends to be able to find you if they use Address Matching. After entering your phone number, your phone's address book will be scanned for other Kik users.
    • Ensure that your account has a valid email address associated, as this will help increase the number of matches you get.
    • No one can see your phone number, even with Address Book Matching enabled.
  5. Check your New People list. Any matches found will appear on this list. Tap their name to send a message to the person. Once you send a message, that person will be added to your Contacts list.[2]

  • There are several sites online that act as Kik databases and matchmaking services. You can use these to find Kik users near you that match your interests.
