Sell Lots of Lemonade at a Lemonade Stand

Many kids want to sell lots of lemonade over the summer as an effective way to make money. However, many children fall short of their goal. But don't fear there are a few tips and tricks to help you sell more and more. Read on to find out how.

Steps

  1. Make sure your lemonade is cold and tastes great. Increase desirability by adding lemon slices to the pitcher. Don't use a bunch of ice in the drink, as this might cause it to get watered down and not taste as lemony.
  2. Position your table near the road. Make sure to maintain a safe distance, though. Leave enough room for a couple of adults and a stroller to fit comfortably between your stand and the road. Having a friend or family member to help you is good, as one of you could get more lemons or ice while the other one manages the stand.
  3. Make sure people can see your stand from the road. Dress up your stand with bright colors, balloons and posters. A beach umbrella will keep the sun off of you and provide a vibrant visual cue for potential customers. Also, set up a sign down the road closer to a busy street to tell people that there is lemonade.
  4. Add variety. Spark interest by continually changing your offerings. Serve Kool-Aid, teas, mineral water, healthful smoothies, and other drinks, but keep it simple. Offer lemonade and only one other drink each day. Other options include limeade, orangeade and ice pops.
  5. Charge up to $1 per cup.
  6. Supply refills. This is optional. Either set them as free or half of the original price.
  7. Make your stand colorful. Create signs to hold and wave and put a sign on your stand. A banner is always an option, but keep the look clean and uncluttered. It is best to have many looks and change the looks from one day to the next.
  8. Make sure to give exact change back. Have a little cup full of quarters so you can give back change when needed. Everything should be priced in multiples of a quarter.

Tips

  • Make sure you have good signage and put it where many cars pass by.
  • Have it while a garage sale or something is going on in your neighborhood, this will attract costumers, from outside your neighborhood.
  • Make sure your lemonade tastes good. You should give out samples to your friends and family to test it themselves and based on that rate your lemonade.
  • Put out flyers and post on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) telling everyone you're selling lemonade. Be sure to include your address. If you want to attract friends as well, email them or shoot them a text.
  • If there are a lot of dogs in your neighbourhood, supply fresh water in a bowl and keep some doggy treats with you. When people go for a walk, their dog can get thirsty and will want some drink. So when the person sees the bowl of water for the dog, they will most likely want to buy some lemonade whilst they are there.
  • Have a friend help you out. One of you could get more lemons or ice while the other runs the stand. Having a friend with you also helps the environment around you brighter and more pleasant.
  • Set up the lemonade stand at the right place such as a popular park, at the beach or near a special event. There will most likely be a bigger crowd that includes children that will want some lemonade, especially if it is hot outside.

Warnings

  • Make sure that the people you sell to are not allergic to something you may sell.
  • Be careful setting up near major thoroughfares because your lemonade stand may be targeted for not having a vendor's permit.
  • Check the local ordinances to ensure that you do not need a vendor's license.
  • Never leave the lemonade stand unattended. This gives people the chance to "steal".
  • Always check with the place you are selling lemonade to keep you out of getting in trouble because of either no permit to sell or setting up on someone's yard without permission.
