Send Videos

It is relatively simple to send videos to people if you have the right tools. You usually need to store video files on your computer before you can send them. While sending a video directly from your email client is possible, other ways exist to send videos.

Steps

  1. Transfer video files to your computer. Connect your digital camera or other video recording device to your computer and copy the videos to your computer's hard drive.
  2. Find your video files on your computer.
  3. Attach the files to a new email message and send the email.

Using a Video Sharing Website

  1. Share videos using a file-sharing website such as YouSendit or Drop.io. These websites can allow you to send video files that may be too large for your email client to handle.
  2. Sign up for an account on the file-sharing site if needed. Enter your recipients' email addresses in the "To:" or otherwise appropriate field.
  3. Upload the video files you want to send from your computer to the website. The website will email links to your video files to those you wish to share the videos with.

Using a Desktop Client

  1. Download a file-sharing software program such as Pando to your computer.
  2. Choose how you want to send the file if needed (by email or instant messenger, for example).
  3. Enter recipients' email addresses to send videos by email.
  4. Browse for the video files you want to send from your computer. Select them or drag and drop them, if allowed, into the desktop software's window.
  5. Send the files to your recipients. The video files will be stored on the file-sharing software's server for access.

Tips

  • Advantages of using desktop file-sharing software include not needing to be online when recipients download your files and less chance for an error to occur when sending a file.
  • Compressing a video file to make it smaller in size can be done with various programs but it can also result in loss of quality.
  • If emailing a video, make sure the file size is under 2 MB. Large video files take longer to download and may be rejected by the recipient's email client.
  • Try any free trials offered by file-sharing websites to use their service to send videos.

Warnings

  • Do not upload or share links to copyrighted video that does not belong to you.
  • Video files sent through a file-sharing website or client may only be available to recipients for a limited time, such as 7 days.
  • Make sure your videos are saved in the correct format for recipients to be able to open them.
  • If using a desktop client to share videos, the recipients may need to download the same program before they can access the video files.
