Set up a Network Homegroup
One of the features that come standard with Windows 7 is the capability to share documents, images, videos, and music over a home network. HomeGroup is relatively easy to set up and can be useful when working with multiple computers.
Steps
- Select a computer to start the HomeGroup on. It must have a functional Internet connection if you want to create it.
- Open 'Control Panel' and select 'Network and Internet'. A list of networking-related links will appear.
- Click the 'HomeGroup' link. A page will open saying that there is no HomeGroup on your network (assuming that there is none).
- Click 'Create a HomeGroup'. You will be brought to another page with a series of checkboxes on it.
- Select the libraries/folders you want to share over the HomeGroup. When complete, the folders you select will be visible and accessible to other computers connected to your HomeGroup.
- Click 'Next'. You may click the 'Back' arrow if you want to change the shared folders. You can also change them after you finish.
- Copy down the password that appears. You will need it if you wish to connect other computers to the HomeGroup.
- Click 'Save Changes' and finish your settings. Your HomeGroup is now on your home network.
