Shop for Clothes on a Budget

It takes a lot of money to keep up with fashion and style, and shopping at first rate stores can put a dent in your budget. Consignment shops are a great place to start, because most of the time, brand new clothes can be found there, and they are all clean and pressed.

Steps

  1. Visit Consignment stores. Find many brand names such as Abercrombie, American Eagle, even Juicy Couture. If you shop at the right time, you can even get new clothes, with the tags still on!
  2. Check out the outlet mall. You can find brand new cute shirts for only $3.00! Wet Seal usually has great discount prices. You can buy at least 8 things for $40.00, instead of 1 jacket at a "better" name brand.
  3. Look through your closet. There might be some things in there you can dress up or that have come back into style. Try trading clothes with your friends. See if clothes you have match your friends' clothes. This way, you and your friends can have a totally different wardrobe. Accessories can also spice up an old outfit.
  4. Try Freecycle.org. There is usually a freecycle group for your town and people practically give away clothes that they don't want. You'd be surprised what people are willing to give away for free! But if you're under 18, you might want to consider letting your parent(s) okay it first.
  5. Try hitting up yard or garage sales. Occasionally you might come across something really adorable.
  6. Visit any book store and look for a book by Megan Nicolay titled Generation T. It lists over 108 ways to transform an ordinary t-shirt into something new, fresh, and cute! You can take your dads , boyfriends, husbands, or even your old t-shirts and transform them into something totally wearable! From then you can get super crafty from ironing or screen printing things on the Ts. Wherever your imagination takes you! Be creative!
  7. Check out the Mall especially on holiday sale days. Buy off season, for next season. There are really good buys, and stay away from the expensive brand names. You end up paying for the name, and the jeans are the same even without the name.
  8. Two style books that show how to dress inexpensively but still cute are "Style A To Zoe" by Rachel Zoe and "Style Beauty Trimness" by Nancy Marie.

Tips

  • Be sure to buy new "looking" stuff. Smell it too.
  • Definitely don't buy things because they are in style at the time. Chances are things that are in "style" are expensive. Be yourself and be creative. Set your own trends!
  • Look at better sales first, and find your figure. If you have money left over, go to more expensive stuff or save it for later! Just think, with less than $100.00, you could have a whole new wardrobe!
  • If you don't throw away your old clothes, losing a few pounds will widen your wardrobe. As an added bonus, more types of clothes will look good on you.
  • The web is a good source for ideas. Look up ways to transform the clothing you already have. Try jazzing things up with accessories.
  • Freecycle isn't just good for getting free clothes. You can get tons of different things. It just depends on your area. It's also a good thing to use when you don't want to throw something away, and aren't having a yard/garage sale.

Warnings

  • If you're under 18, its best to let your parent(s) know if you want to pick up or give away any items.
