This year the best job in the U.S. is Software Engineering. As companies are transitioning to more automation, Software Engineering is the skill that they need most. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistic, this field is growing faster than others with 30% growth rate. The reason the field is voted as the best because it has the highest salary among the Information Technology (IT) sector. According to the report, a college graduate with no experience can get an average salary of $92,648. This is the “average” since depending on the location company would pay much more. For example in California, Boston, Seattle, Austin, and New York the salary could go up to $135,000. That does not include signing bonuses, stock options and various perks they receive. A typical Software Engineering graduate in Silicon Valley could get $130,000, plus $5000 signing bonus, and $100,000 to $250,000 worth of stock options if he stays with the company for 5 years; a 3-week vacation each year until the fifth year he could get a 5-week vacation. (Google base salary is $128,336, Facebook is $123,626, Apple is $114,413 for Software Engineering jobs).
