Stop Lipstick from Feathering
Feathered lips are a disaster to look at, with the lipstick bleeding across your lips and looking uneven. It becomes more of a problem the older you are, as your lips dry up more easily and lines around your mouth show up more easily. Stop the feathering with this simple method.
Steps
- Exfoliate your lips if needed. Dry lips will make lipstick color uneven and mottled. Use a soft toothbrush to clean the lips first.
- Pat your lips with foundation primer first. Be sure to cover all parts of your lips evenly. Then apply a little foundation over the primer.
- Apply a lip balm to moisturize the lips. This step is optional but is helpful if your lips tend to be very dry; the balm helps the lipstick to glide on.
- Apply the lipstick. Do this under bright, good light, so that you can see what you're doing properly.
- Finish by patting over the lipstick with a translucent powder. The combination of foundation, balm, and powder will prevent the lipstick from feathering.
- Finished.
Tips
- Filling in your lips with the liner as the long-lasting base can also help to prevent feathering. It also stops a "ring" of liner forming around your lips as the day or night wears on.
- When applying the lip liner, be sure to use a properly sharpened lip-liner pencil. Then, dab the tip of the liner on your hand to soften it a little before applying.
