Think of Funny Ideas for Videos
Making a humorous video can be an entertaining activity in and of itself. Humor can also add an engaging element to videos made for work or class. Whether you're making a funny animated short for YouTube or a classroom presentation on modern Italy, there are some common principles for generating a funny video concept.

Steps
- Study funny movies and short videos that work well. Try to understand what was funny about them, and why they worked.
- Determine your medium. Animation? Claymation? Live action? Or a combination? Do you have access to special effects? Each of these mediums has assets and limitations, which you should consider. Video length will also determine how much of a plot you can have.
- Determine your purpose. Is this just a joke video?
Tips
- Be original, but don't be afraid to parody or to borrow concepts.
- Awkward social situations make great comedy fodder.
- Comedy is drama in disguise: you need conflict in your plot to create good comedy.
- Always try to think out of the box.
- Pick an issue or a facet of society, and mock it in an astute or absurd way.
- If you need to get your brainstorm going, think of an absurd "what if" and run with it. For example, try: "What if scientists managed to clone dinosaurs, and they became the new rage as pets?". Build on your "what if" scenario in a humorous fashion: for example, people selling "guard Tyrannosaurus Rex" on the black market, or movie stars carrying around "pocket raptors", complete with rhinestone collars.
Warnings
- Not everyone sees the same things as funny. Your video may not strike everyone as amusing.
- Some topics are sensitive and need to be handled carefully.
- Effective satire tends to outrage and offend-- be prepared for an audience reaction.
