Turn Off Audio of a Facebook Story on iPhone or iPad
This article teaches you how to add a soundless video to your Facebook story on an iPhone or iPad. You’ll also learn how to watch other peoples’ stories in silence by disabling all audio in the Facebook app.
Steps
Disabling Audio in Your Own Video
- Open Facebook. It’s a blue icon with a white “f.” You’ll usually find it on your home screen.
- Tap the camera icon. It’s near the top-left corner of the screen. You should now see a camera viewfinder.
- Press and hold the shutter button to record your video. It’s the large circle near the bottom of the screen. You can lift your finger at any time to stop recording.
- Tap the speaker icon. It’s near the top of the screen. An “x” will appear near the speaker, indicating the that volume is now muted.
- Edit your video. This is optional, but you can tap the magic wand to view editing options, then edit your video as you wish. When you’re finished, tap Done.
- Tap the arrow in a circle. It’s near the bottom of the screen. This brings you to a screen with sharing options.
- Place a check mark next to “Your Story.” If you already see a check mark, there’s no need to change anything.
- Tap the send icon. It’s the paper airplane icon at the bottom of the screen. Your soundless video will now be posted to your Facebook story.
Disabling All Audio on Facebook
- Open Facebook. It’s a blue icon with a white “f.” You’ll usually find the app on your home screen.
- The only way to turn off the audio in peoples’ Facebook stories is to disable all audio in Facebook. This method will walk you through that process.
- Tap ☰. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Tap Settings. It’s near the bottom of the list.
- Tap Account Settings.
- Tap Sounds. It’s in the second group of settings.
- Slide the “In-app Sound” switch to the Off position. When the switch turns gray, audio in Facebook will be disabled. You can re-enable it at any point by returning to this screen and sliding the switch back on.
