Unlock Secret Challenge Mode on New Super Mario Bros DS

Have you finished New Super Mario Bros, and are searching for another challenge? This article will teach you how to unlock Secret Challenge Mode so you can up your game even further.

Steps

  1. Load a file where you have previously cleared the final boss in World 8.
  2. Once you are on the map, select START to go to the Pause menu.
  3. Press L+R+L+R+X+X+Y+Y.
    • If you want to unlock Secret Challenge Mode , you need to press these buttons in this order.
  4. Wait for a message telling you to play "Secret Challenge Mode." If you don't get it, that means you entered the button sequence incorrectly; try again.
  5. Select a level to play "Secret Challenge Mode" on and have fun!

Tips

  • Secret Challenge Mode makes the screen scrolling like the original Super Mario Bros. This means that you can't go back from where you came.
  • On some selected stages, you may receive a message box out of nowhere telling you the same message you received when you activated the mode.
  • This mode can be deactivated at any time by following the main steps.
  • This is only active on levels you have already cleared.
  • This mode is also not permanent. If you shut your game off and play later, you'll have to enter the code again.
  • When you activate Challenge Mode, some levels will scroll back (eg. Bowser's Castle, World 5 Ghost House and levels you have not completed.).
  • Levels that do not use this mode include the Final Castle, some Ghost Houses, and any stage you haven't previously cleared.

Warnings

  • Be careful! Due to some level designs, you may get stuck and have to quit the level. You also have to watch out especially in vertical levels, because the screen doesn't scroll down, essentially creating a bottomless pit below you.
