Update Minecraft PE

Minecraft Pocket Edition is the mobile app version of Minecraft that’s available for mobile phones and tablets that operate on iOS, Android, Fire OS, and Windows operating systems. As with any game or app, there are sometimes updates available that make the application work better, fix bugs, or expand the game. Updating Minecraft PE on your device is pretty simple, and it’s recommended that you always have the latest version installed on your device to ensure the game runs as smoothly as possible and offers you all the features available.

Steps

Updating from the Apple App Store

  1. Open the App Store on your Apple device. It’s the blue circle with the white A inside. Tap the icon to open the App Store.
  2. Select the Updates from the bottom tabs. Scroll through Pending Updates to see if Minecraft: Pocket Edition is listed. If there’s an update available, it will show up under that list; if you already have the most current version, Minecraft: Pocket Edition will not be listed.[1]
  3. Tap Update. Minecraft: Pocket Edition will begin to update automatically.
    • For iOS 7 and later, you can set up automatic updating for apps. To do this, go to Settings > iTunes and App Store. Under Automatic Downloads, turn on automatic downloads for updates (so that the button is green). Turn off “Use Cellular Data” if you only want automatic downloads to occur when you are connected to Wi-Fi.[2]

Updating From the Google Play Store

  1. Open the Google Play Store. For devices that run on the Android operating system, look for the icon with the multi-colored sideways triangle (play button). Tap the icon to open the Play Store
  2. Go to My Apps. From the main Play Store page, tap the top left menu button (the three horizontal bars) and select My Apps.
  3. Locate Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Scroll through your apps. When you find Minecraft: Pocket Edition, there will be an green Update button beside the app (next to the Uninstall button) if there’s an update available.
    • If there is no Update button, then you already have the latest version.
  4. Tap update. If there is an update available, select Update and it will proceed automatically.
    • Opt for automatic updates for this app by tapping the three vertical dots on the upper right corner of the app page and checking Auto-Update.[3]
    • To set up automatic updates for all your apps, tap the top left menu button in the Play Store > Settings, and under General, select Auto-Update Apps or Auto-Update Apps Over Wi-Fi Only to conserve cellular data.[3]

Updating on a Windows Phone

  1. Open the Windows Phone Store. The icon for the Windows Phone Store looks like a shipping bag with a flattened Windows logo in the center. Tap the icon to launch the Windows Phone Store.
  2. Check for an update. To do this, tap the app menu (“…”) > Settings > Check for Updates. Wait for your device to compile the list of apps that require updates.[4]
  3. Update Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Tap Update if one is available for this app.
    • To set up automatic updates for all your apps, in the Store, go to the app menu “…” > Settings > App Updates, and turn on Automatically Update My Apps.[5] On this same screen, you can also turn on Only Get Updates Over Wi-Fi to conserve cellular data.
    • To download an update using your cellular network after turning on Wi-Fi-only updates, go to the Store app menu > Downloads. When you find the app you want to update, tap Update.

Updating for Fire OS

  1. Open the Amazon Appstore. For Amazon devices, start at the Home screen and tap Apps > Store.
  2. Find your updates. Tap Menu > App Updates.[6] An update available for Minecraft: Pocket Edition will be listed here; if it’s not listed, then you already have the latest version.
  3. Update your app. Tap Update if one is available for this app.
    • To run updates automatically, from the Appstore, tap Menu > Settings. Enable Automatic Updates, and they will run when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.

Finding a Free Update

  1. Determine the most recent version. As of January, 2017, the latest version or Minecraft: PE is 0.17.1.[7] A quick Internet search for Minecraft: PE latest version will tell you if it’s still the most current version.
    • You already have to have Minecraft: PE installed on your device for this to work.
  2. Find a download. Search “Minecraft: PE 0.17.1 free download” or “Minecraft: PE latest version APK.” Once you’ve found a reliable site, download the latest version.
  3. Determine if the version is compatible. Open the file. If no error appears, you have successfully downloaded a compatible version.
  4. Uninstall the original app. For the new update to work, you must uninstall the actual Minecraft: PE from your device. Once that’s complete, install the updated version.

Tips

  • It’s best to update your apps when you have an available Wi-Fi connection and have your device connected to a power outlet.
  • Make sure you have enough storage available on your device before beginning any new downloads or updates.
