Use Keyboard Shortcuts in Photoshop
There is a list of keyboard shortcuts that come with Photoshop which are relevant to the operating system you are using (Windows or Macintosh). Using these shortcuts will accelerate the creative process, as you will not have to mouse over and pull down the menus to get to the interface or action you desire. Actions recording will allow for creation of user specific shortcuts, and an increase in your capacity to produce work.

Steps
- Look at the menu bar of Photoshop and click on any menu item.
- The choices with a preset shortcut appear in the list on the right side, opposite the associated command.
- Memorize the desired shortcuts. Use them often, until they become second nature.
- For repetitive tasks, create your own shortcut by assigning function keys to actions. This involves recording the task you desire and telling the actions naming panel the function keys you desire to assign to it. If the function key choice combination is greyed out, it is not available and is being used by another function.
- Use as many shortcuts as you can remember, and create your own.
Tips
- Another shortcut involves the creation of styles and saving them to the styles palette. Anything that you can create using layer styles is save able as a button choice.
- Practice, practice, practice.
- There are a lot of "hidden" shortcuts listed on the shortcut "cheat sheet" that comes with Photoshop.
- Notice all shortcuts when using pull-down menus.
- Notice the shortcuts next to items on the filter list that let you re-apply a filter to another selection. This will even allow recall of the same filter and its dialog box, all without mousing!
- Make your own if they are not already preset.
Warnings
- You can never know too many shortcuts. Novice users are often amazed at how many commands are available without the use of a mouse. You can create a document, make a new layer, create a stroked border, select the background layer, and fill with a color by pressing one key combination. This stuff is addictive to the "power user" lurking in all of us.
