Wear Nail Polish Colors That Contrast and Brighten Your Outfit

You don't want to choose tedious nail colors that make absolutely no style statement. You do want to wear nail polish colors that contrast and brighten your outfit. At the same time, pairing the wrong polish with your outfit will send your look directly to the garbage. To spare yourself the proverbial fashion faux pas, follow these tips to spice up your wardrobe with bold and exciting nail color.

Steps

Rocking Some Red

  1. Wear standard or dark red nail polish with anything black. Anything from a casual black shirt to a more formal black dress will work perfectly with this color.
  2. Pair red nail polish with jeans. Generally, choose darker shades of denim instead of lighter shades when you're wearing red nail polish.
  3. Wear white in moderation. A white shirt with red nail polish works, but if you wear too much white, then the pairing will become garish.
  4. Add some accessories. Red nail polish pairs well with diamond earrings, pearl studs and silver earrings. You can also choose a gray or black accessory such as a headband.

Picking Pink

  1. Pair neon pink with an understated outfit. Choose a simple black, gray or white ensemble.
  2. Pair opaque pink with just about anything. Opaque pink is great for an outfit with bold patterns because it will spiff up your nails without distracting from your clothing. An opaque pink also serves as a great alternative to a blasé neutral color like tan.
  3. Avoid pairing a strong pink nail polish with bright colors. You'll come across as frightening instead of fashionable. Neon pink does not, for instance, go with reds, fluorescents or metallics.
  4. Skip the pastels when you're wearing pink nail polish. If you want to wear pastel, at least be a little bolder with your nail color. Go with lilac or sky blue.

Being Bold With Blue

  1. Match navy nail polish with metallics. Gold and silver look amazing with navy.
  2. Pair cobalt with a dress or shirt in a shade of tangerine. Beyonce looked amazing when she made her first post-baby appearance rocking a tangerine dress and wearing cobalt blue nail polish.
  3. Try some teal. This icy twist on traditional blue pairs well with white and silver.
  4. Go with sky blue. Sky blue looks great with a white outfit, especially if you add some sky blue jewelry to call attention to the color.

Loving Yellow

  1. Pair bright yellow nail polish with a light gray outfit.
  2. Pair a slightly more muted yellow with a white outfit.
  3. Combine gray and white with your yellow polish. A good throw-together outfit would be any type of gray pants, any white top, a yellow headband matching the shade of yellow on your nails, and a pair of white or silver earrings.

Being Cautious With Black

  1. Wear black nail polish with gold. Try some golden and/or tan flats, a white/tan shirt of any design, and black skinny jeans. The black contrasts with any gold that you are wearing and makes it more prominent.
  2. Pair black nail polish with silver. However, avoid wearing jeans with glimmers of silver while wearing black nail polish.
  3. Trim your nails short and square if you wear black nail polish with any outfit. Don't cut nails too close or your fingers will look stubby. Also, don't wear nails too long or you will look like you have witch talons.
