Win a Nerf War

It can be really easy to win a Nerf war, if you use good tactics. Here is a guide on how you can have a better chance of winning a Nerf war against your friends.

Steps

Planning and Practicing

  1. Decide your play area. Don't pick somewhere that echoes or is closed in. Try out in the open field with lots of dirt mounds and trees to hide behind. Rural and outdoorsy areas are fantastic, as you want as many places to hide as possible. A large backyard with lots of obstacles will also work.
  2. Pick your teams. Give each team time to prepare battle plans before the war begins. Successful teams make plans together.
    • Get a good set of players. 10 on 10 is great, but as long as you have at least one person to fight, you'll have fun. A proper team includes 7-8 players.
  3. Give people roles. If somebody is less suited to running around, make him or her a sniper. Try to include everybody and give everybody a suitable role. If you have new people, just make them shadow your best fighters. Also, arrange the formation of the players that are playing with you.
    • Have snipers on either side of the field, a machine gun in the front and a machine gun in the back.
  4. Train if possible. Make some targets and practice shooting at least an hour a day. Get some extra ammo and get your team mates to shoot at you so you can practice hearing darts and dodging. Become a Nerf ninja! Practice cool moves like double duck somersault, cartwheels or back flips.
  5. Get a chance to see the battlefield first. See the terrain, and if possible, set some traps for enemy; it's not cheating. If, however, you've been invited to a Nerf-Out, be sure to play by the rules set by the person in charge.
  6. Choose your weapons well. Keep your best gun as the one you're holding, but carry a secondary weapon, and even a spare, if you have a shoulder or back strap for it. Remember, guns are not everything, if you are good at Nerf and have good skill you will win with any gun.
    • A good primary is the Nerf Stryfe with a Rampage clip in it. A good secondary would be the Strongarm. Try making a holster for a Retaliator or Hammershot . If you are not good at sniping, but are good on offense and strong, consider using a Havok Fire machine gun. they are not quiet, but they are quick and accurate, easily helping you to finish off anyone trying to do away with you.

Using Battle Strategies

  1. Get into formation. Have the leader in front, then the bombers and foot-soldiers. Make sure your newbies are staying in a safe position, and they know what they're doing.
    • Always have defense in case of an early attack.
  2. Load your ammo well. Carry lots of ammo, and make reloading as easy as possible. If you have a bandolier, use it.
    • If you are low on ammo, use it wisely. Only shoot if you are absolutely positive you won't miss.
    • If you need to reload, get behind cover before reloading your weapon.
  3. Hold an enemy hostage and write a note to the enemy saying you have a hostage. If you want, you can shoot the hostage before you deliver the note, however some people may see that as cheating.
    • Wear quiet shoes and be silent. Sneak up on People on enemies and grab them. You can try using them as a body shield if you want, or just keep them trapped, and use their weapons.
  4. Use cover wisely. Hide in corners if an enemy comes and wait for them to get close, and then shoot. If your gun is too long and they're too close, rifle butt. In the game you're supposed to act like your in pain for a minute, so take this opportunity to shoot your enemy and pick up your darts when you're done.
    • Have a camo shirt or blanket to cover yourself and snipe the opponents.
    • Beware of others hiding around a corner. You don't want to get shot going around a corner. Use a tactical entry into any rooms.
  5. If your gun jams, do not drop it and run. Dropping your gun is a bad idea, as the enemy can pick it up or you could be without an offense. You could use your jammed gun for a shield or you could fake a shot and run away.
  6. If you have a mercenary, have him or her roam off on their own, this is better and the enemy may not think they aren't working for you.
  7. Hide if a hoard is coming after you, and call for help. Run if you can't hold your ground. It's better to run away and come back with reinforcements than to get killed.
    • If you are surrounded, focus on a single side and make an escape. You have to be very careful, so that you don't get shot.
  8. Make a fort. Make it large but secure.
    • Have an ammo dump a your fort. Make sure you and your teammates have ammo at all times.
  9. Use your gun as a shield. If you see a dart coming, use your gun to shield it. If you shield successfully, they'll need to reload, so shoot now while they're weak. If you're on the other side of this, and your opponent uses their gun as a shield, hide before reloading, and be prepared for them to shoot quickly.
  10. Go on the offensive when you can. To take down machine guns, come at them from behind. Or you could possibly take the two people with the biggest guns with you so you have protection.
    • Use a Nerf grenade called Lanard Scatter Blast Foam Dart Grenade. This is a great way to clear up a fort.
  11. Try to pretend to be on the other guy's side and spy for your real side. This is called being a double agent; however, some people may see this as cheating.
    • If possible, steal valuable weapons from enemy base if you are under attack. Steal ALL if you think you can get away with it, and make it back to your base without dying.
  12. If the rules say that you can have a medic who can revive other fighters, have the medic armed with a small pistol.
  13. If the rules let you, Make a Nerf Shield.
    • If you need a Nerf shield, there is a shield in the N-Force series, and one comes with the Stampede.

Tips

  • Never stay inside with single fire weapons. Nothing is worse than being the best sniper on your team and getting defeated by an MG.
  • If it's a one-on-one Nerf war, then use your surroundings for cover (rocks, trees, couches, chairs, walls).
  • If it's a middle of night war, have shifts for best effect attacks.
  • Work with a partner and cover each other's moves.
  • If you're out of ammo ask your friends for some or steal some from an enemy base!
  • Duck and strafe. This makes it a lot harder for you to be hit.
  • Practice real military tactics if you know them. They work even better.
  • Find your opponents weakness and use it against them if possible.
  • Make a ranking system for your team if you have multiple members, this will provide a better way for team members to know who is in charge and will create better team work.
  • Always put your team first, do the hard parts yourself. Sacrifice for them.
  • Keep an eye on each person on your team. They may be planning to betray you themselves. Keep a distance though you can't let them know your spying on them.
  • If possible carefully spray-paint or hand paint Nerf guns camouflage is key if you're a sniper.
  • If you use a Maverick, it's easier to reload if you have 5 bullets-make sure the dart is on the left side of the barrel, so you don't fire it. Then, when you shoot, if you have darts handy just slot them in the side. This way, every time you shoot there a space free.
  • If the enemies did not attack in a long time have a game of cards. The people who don't want to play can guard the base.
  • Never right when you see someone; wait until they go past then you jump out and attack it's called an "ambush".
  • Use meat shields. If it is a hostage that's even better enemies won't want to fire at their own.
  • If you have a machine gun and there's a group coming, hide behind a wall, then shoot wildly at the group.
  • Open the gun and put foam on the piston hitter. This will make the gun quieter for better stealth.
  • Remove the air restrictor carefully so that the gun will shoot {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} more than it would have. Be especially careful if you do remove the air restrictor. Don't injure yourself or others.
  • The longer the barrel, the slower the muzzle velocity
  • The front section of the CS-6 Longshot is useless, unless you need an extra dart.
  • If you have a Rapidstrike CS-18, use it.
  • Target vests are considered bulletproof in the rules. However, if you have velcro dart, those are considered armor piercing.
  • Use a Long Range Primary, Rapid Fire Secondary, and a Pistol last; or a Stampede first, a Vulcan second, a Recon third, and whatever pistol you have as needed.
  • Use a stronger spring.
  • Try sniping from trees, the leaves provide protection and excellent camouflage.
  • Don't aim at the face. Aim for the hands; they will cause the person to stop or drop their gun.
  • Run out to them in zigzags until your opponents run out of ammo.
  • If your a support youse something that shoots fast like a Rapidstrike if you're a sniper use a Longshot, and if you're a ordinary assault use a Stryfe and stay near a support they support you.
  • If you have a Nerf vest, use it; it helps hold clips and you can reload faster.

Warnings

  • Everyone hates liars, so be honest if you get hit.
  • Never shoot at innocent bystanders, or in public. Never shoot at the face or eyes of anyone who does not have eye protection.
  • Always have a medical kit.
  • Don't hit people with guns.
  • Do not use a MagStrike, Maverick, or a RapidFire 20 for a primary. Use it only as a last-ditch escape weapon.
  • Always wear protective gear, including eye protection. When wearing eye gear, make sure the glasses do not affect your line of sight. Nerf glasses can sometimes do just that. Try if you can to find a clear pair of good fitting work glasses.
