Write a Speech about Your Dog for Show and Tell

Do you love your dog? Want to write an interesting speech for public speaking class? Or are you simply out of ideas on what to do? If you answered yes to any of the previous questions, then this is the article for you.

Steps

  1. Write down a list of interesting things about your dog. Try to jot down as many as possible. The interesting points can be about anything-the way your dog acts, a funny habit, how they look, what they eat...Anything that is funny, interesting and something another person would be interested to know. Think carefully.
  2. Now, sort the interesting points into categories-behaviour, looks, eating habits, sleeping habits, etc. Make sure there is more than one point under each category, or one very detailed and big point. If you have a bunch of points left over and don't know where to put them, start a new category called "Other" and put them there.
  3. Decide which points you want to include in your speech. Make sure the ones you choose are interesting, funny, and appropriate. How many points you choose may also depend on the amount of time you have to give the speech. Choose carefully. When you have chosen the points you are going to include, write them down on a separate piece of paper.
  4. Now, detail each point. For example, an interesting point you wrote down could be, "My dog really likes eating cat food", or "My dog loves water", would be developed and detailed into something like, "For some reason, (insert dog's name here)really enjoys eating cat food. We discovered this when...etc etc." Make sure the points are interesting and well written.
  5. Once each point is detailed, organize them in the order you are going to say them. For example, you could say all the interesting points about your dog's eating habits first, or just number each point. Make sure the points have some kind of organization.
  6. Once you've finished all of that, write an introduction for the speech. Something introducing what you're talking about, why, etc. Make sure the introduction will capture your audience-if they dislike the intro, they probably won't listen to the rest. So write it carefully.
  7. Got the introduction? Good! Now, type or write up the introduction and all of the interesting points in the correct order, and voila! You have an interesting and funny speech on your dog to present for show and tell.

Tips

  • Try not to fidget. It shows you're nervous or bored, and distracts people from listening. Put your hands comfortably by your sides and stand with good posture. If you want, you can use gestures.
  • Speak with expression. If you don't talk well, the speech will seem boring. Look at the audience and don't talk in a monotone the whole time. Show your emotion about what you're talking about!
  • If you're allowed, ask if you can actually bring your dog in. That will definitely make the speech interesting.
  • Stand up straight and tall. Don't slouch.
  • Include pictures of your dog to get the audiences attention.

Warnings

  • Make sure you don't make the speech too long or too short. Keep within the designated time limit.
