Act Like a Japanese Girl

Do you want to look and act like a Japanese girl? It's not too difficult, just be born to Japanese parents! If you aren't Japanese, there's nothing wrong with being interested in the culture of Japan, however dressing/acting like a stereotype Japanese girl is extremely disrespectful and offensive, as is pretending you are Japanese.

Steps

  1. Showing an interest in Japanese culture and history is fine, in fact, it is great to be educated about other parts of the world. You can use books or the Internet to research Japan and find out more.
  2. Don't dress or try to make yourself look Japanese if you are not. Aside from that being offensive, you should love yourself for how you look and for your own race and background.
  3. There is no set "Japanese" style, just like in the West, different people wear different clothing. Very few Japanese people actually fit they stereotype you are probably imagining in your head.
  4. Learn to speak Japanese if you want to. Speaking other languages is a useful skill to have. Try getting a Nintendo DS game called, Japanese Coach. Or, get the Rosetta Stone program for Japanese. Also, you can visit kids' websites in Japan.
  5. Realise that saying you are Japanese when you aren't, pretending to be a Japanese girl and dressing like the stereotype is disrespectful to Japanese people. It is called 'Cultural appropriation'.

Tips

  • Be yourself; you don't need super clear skin because it's possible that Japanese girls don't have super clear skin, watch Anime, or study the way that they do things.
  • Always be polite.
  • Be respectful to their culture.

Warnings

  • Just enjoy the culture like you would any other culture.
  • Don't try to say Japanese words if you cannot pronounce them properly, you may end up embarrassing yourself or confusing other people.
  • Don't pretend you're something you're not. Try exploring your own culture. You never know what interesting things your own culture holds.
  • It's nice to like a style or way of living, but don't copy them completely; learn to love your own race and culture
  • It is very insulting to imitate Japanese people (or people of any race) and generalize them as a certain stereotype.
