Add a Website to Trusted Sites

This article teaches you how to add the URL of a website you trust to your browser's "Trusted Sites" list. Websites on the "Trusted Sites" list won't have cookies, notifications, or pop-ups blocked by your browser's security settings. Unfortunately, mobile browsers don't allow you to change your "Trusted Sites" settings.

Steps

Google Chrome (Desktop)

  1. Open Google Chrome. It's the green, red, and yellow circle around a blue sphere icon.
  2. Click . This option is in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. Click Settings. It's toward the bottom of the drop-down menu.
  4. Scroll down and click Show advanced settings. You'll find this link at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click Content settings. This option is below the "Privacy" heading.
  6. Click Manage exceptions beneath the "Cookies" heading. It's the first option in the "Content settings" menu.
  7. Type in your website's URL. You'll enter this information in the field beneath the "Hostname pattern" heading on the left side of the window.
  8. Make sure the "Behavior" settings says "Allow". The "Behavior" setting is on the right side of the window.
    • If the "Behavior" setting says "Block" or "Clear on exit", click the box and then click "Allow".
  9. Click Done. It's in the bottom-right corner of the window. Doing so will save your settings for stored cookies and data on your Chrome browser.
  10. Repeat this process for other Chrome attributes. As you scroll down, you'll see these headings:
    • Pop-ups - Sites on this list will allow pop-ups regardless of your other Chrome settings.
    • Location - Sites on this list will be able to access your location.
    • Notifications - Sites on this list will be able to send you notifications related to the site's content.
  11. Click Done. It's in the bottom-right corner of the "Content settings" window. Your website is now exempt from Chrome's usual content settings.

Safari (Desktop)

  1. Open Safari. It's the blue icon with a compass.
  2. Navigate to your website. Do so by typing its address into the address bar at the top of the Safari window and then pressing Return.
  3. Two-finger click the URL. It's the web address at the top of the Safari window. Doing so will prompt a drop-down menu.
    • You can also hold down Cmd and click using one finger.
  4. Click Add Link to Bookmarks.
  5. Click the box below the "Add this page to" heading. Doing so will prompt a drop-down menu with different bookmarks options.
  6. Click Top Sites. It's near the top of the menu.
  7. Click Add. Now your selected site is in Safari's "Top Sites" list, which means Safari will trust and allow different attributes of the site (such as images and pop-ups) that weren't previously allowed.
    • You may have to restart your browser in order for these changes to take place.

Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer. It's the blue "e" icon with a yellow circle.
  2. Click ⚙️. It's in the top-right corner of the Internet Explorer window.
  3. Click Internet options. You'll see this option at the bottom of the drop-down menu; clicking it will open the "Internet Options" window.
  4. Click Privacy. This tab is at the top of the "Internet Options" window.
  5. Click Sites. It's near the top of the "Privacy" page.
  6. Type in your website's address. You'll enter this information in the "Address of website" text field near the middle of the page.
  7. Click Allow. It's on the right side of the page.
  8. Click OK. Your selected website is now exempt from Internet Explorer's usual security settings.

Firefox (Desktop)

  1. Open Firefox. Firefox's icon resembles a red-and-orange fox wrapped around a blue globe.
  2. Click . It's in the top-right corner of the Firefox window.
  3. Click Options. This option is in the middle of the drop-down window.
  4. Click Content. It's on the far-left side of the Firefox window.
  5. Click Exceptions. This option is to the right of the "Pop-ups" heading near the middle of the page.
  6. Type in your website's URL. You'll enter this information in the "Address of website" text field at the top of the window.
  7. Click Allow. It's below and to the right of the text field.
  8. Click Save Changes. It's in the bottom-right corner of the window.
  9. Click Security. This tab is in the middle-left side of the window.
  10. Click Exceptions. You'll see this option to the right of the "General" heading near the top of the page.
  11. Type in your website's URL. You'll enter this information in the "Address of website" text field at the top of the window.
  12. Click Allow. It's below and to the right of the text field.
  13. Click Save Changes. It's in the bottom-right corner of the window. Your selected website is now exempt from general security measures and pop-up restrictions.

Tips

  • Adding a website to your browser's "Trusted Sites" list may allow certain educational or social sites to function if they hadn't previously worked.

Warnings

  • Adding unsecure sites to your "Trusted Sites" list may result in the sites downloading malware or viruses onto your computer.
