Adopt a Pen Name

A pen name is like how you want to be called. Most people on Wattpad go by their username, for example ' The Pro Shipper goes by that name because that's how she/them wants to be known. How do you want to be known? Have you ever wanted to write novels or stories, but wanted to keep your real name a secret? Using a pen name can solve that problem.

Steps

  1. Decide on what you want your writing personality to be. Do you want to write horror books or murder stories? Romance novels or children's books? Get creative with it!
  2. Think of names that fit that personality. For example, if you choose to write mystery stories, then think of a mysterious name. At the bottom of this article, there are some useful websites with examples of pen names and what they mean that may be helpful for you.
  3. Don't tell anyone your pen name! It ruins the whole mystery of having a pen name. Keep it secret, it's way more fun!
  4. Start writing books using your pen name. If you are asked to put a biography at the back of your book, as most authors do, don't give too much information. (The perfect example is Be Like Lemony Snicket.)
  5. Keep your identity a mystery. Make people that read your books will think, "I want to know more about the author," or, "I wonder what their life is like."
