Apply Body Spray

Want to smell nice all over? Using a body spray can give you a long lasting nice fragrance.

Steps

  1. Take the cap off the can, if it has one.
  2. Point the can at the part of your body you wish to spray, and hold it at least six inches from the surface. Any closer and it will get wet. You can hold it from farther if you want to spread out the smell.
  3. Press down on the button as far as it goes and hold for just a second at a time, repeating if necessary. A good strategy for application is a quick spray to each underarm, each wrist, and at the neck.
  4. You might also spray some in your hand and lightly pat your arms with it while it's still wet. This is best done with only the lightest scents.

Tips

  • Remember: Just a little will do it. It is always better to err on the side of under-application. Too little means people need to get closer to notice your body spray, but too much will irritate and overwhelm others and often smells more like the alcohol base of the spray than the actual notes of the scent. Furthermore, a scent often appears weaker to its wearer than to others who have not been marinating in it, so even if it seems unnoticeable to you, there is a good chance that it is stronger than you think.
  • Scent applied at pulse points will radiate further. Instead of spraying indiscriminately at random parts of your body, some good spots to aim for include: wrists, inside elbows, inside knees, neck, sternum, behind the ears, and underarms. Do not apply to every single one of these simultaneously, only a couple at a time.
  • A spritz applied to the back of your neck has the effect of leaving a trail of scent in your wake.
  • Experiment with different scents. What smells good to you may be unappealing to others, as tastes differ.
  • However, body spray should be used sparingly, as enhancement, not as a device to mask un-cleanliness or sweatiness. Occasional use as a cover-up is okay, but try to make it a habit to stay fresh and clean and you will smell best of all.
  • A good cheap alternative is to try out a variety of clean smelling lotions and sprays from drugstores or grocery stores, or shops such as Target; often, their products are on par or better than the pricier ones from specialty stores.
  • If you are desperate to cover up your smell and don't have body spray, you can use roll-on deodorant and dab it on to your shirt. Do not run it hard or it will feel wet or leave marks or just smell too strong.
  • Many people feel that Axe smells trashy and has an unappealing and juvenile image built around it. Stores such as Bath & Body Works and The Body Shop offer men's products (not just women's!) and lack such an image. When on the market for a scent, consider browsing such places instead of resorting to Axe.

Warnings

  • Many women do not like the scent of male sprays and colognes, stick to a nice manly-scented body wash and an unscented deodorant if you hang around girls who constantly complain about AXE and other body sprays.
  • Never spray without the consent of the people near by, such as the guys in your row of the locker room.
  • Body spray is not a free pass to forgo proper hygiene. It is essential to regularly bathe, wear deodorant, brush your teeth, and stay clean. Scent should be like icing on the cake.
  • The can is under pressure; avoid puncturing it or putting it in direct sunlight.
  • When you first spray, you can actually smell the propellant in the air. Avoid inhaling it too deeply, and it will go away within a few seconds.
  • Never spray onto your face.
  • The stuff in the can is flammable.
  • It is easy to over-apply body spray, as your nose can become saturated with it upon heavy initial application or acclimatize to the smell over time, thus leaving you with the perception that your scent is much weaker than it is to others. Resist the temptation to drown yourself in a scent or reapply frequently.
