Apply the Creative Commons License to Flickr Photographs

If you love photography, you probably have an account at Flickr. If you would like your Flickr photographs to appear in wikiHow's Import Freely Licensed Images Into wikiHow, you'll need to apply a Creative Commons License to each image. Here are several ways to accomplish this:

Steps

Change a License on an Individual Image

  1. Sign into Flickr using your Yahoo ID.

    • Your Yahoo ID and Flickr account names may not be the same.
    • You may also directly log in to Flickr.
  2. Browse your photographs.
  3. Click on a photograph or select the edit link.
  4. Select the edit link next to the photograph you wish to change. A new screen will appear.
  5. Select a new license from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click on Save.
  7. Verify that the new license has been applied to your photograph.

Change a Batch of Flickr Images

  1. Select your account.
  2. Scroll down to "What license will your photos have".
  3. Click on Edit.
  4. Click on Batch at the top of the screen.
  5. Select a new license from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click on OK on the confirmation screen.
    <P>
    • Licenses will now be changed on all your existing photographs.
    • This change will not apply to new uploads.
    • To change the license for new uploads, see instructions below.

Change a Batch of Selected Images

  1. Use the Organizer Tool to change a batch of licenses on a selection of photographs.
  2. Click on the Organize tab at the top of your Flickr screen.
  3. Drag and drop photos you wish to change into the organizer.
  4. Click on the Permissions tab.
  5. Select Licensing from the drop-down menu.
  6. Select a new license from the Javascript window.
  7. Click Thanks after the licenses have been changed. You will be returned to the Organizer Tool.

Change the Default License for Future Uploads

  1. Edit your account settings to change the default license applied to all of your future Flickr uploads.
  2. Click on Your Account at the bottom of your Home page.
  3. Click on the Privacy and Permissions tab.
  4. Scroll down to "What license will your photos have".
  5. Click on Edit.
  6. Select a default license from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click on Set Default.
  8. Verify that your permissions have been changed.
    • Now all your new uploads to Flickr will have this new license.

Tips

  • Changing your photograph's license has nothing to do with whether your photograph is listed as public. Privacy settings for your images are set differently.

Warnings

  • Only change the license on photographs you have taken.
