Bake Tilapia

Tilapia is a mild, white fish that is harvested in freshwater environments. The term "tilapia" is used to describe over 100 species of fish. Baking tilapia with seasonings can create both a healthy and quick meal. Learn how to bake tilapia.

Steps

Defrost Tilapia

  1. Buy 4 tilapia fillets. Most tilapia will be stored frozen to maintain freshness.
  2. Place the tilapia fillets in a sealed bag in the refrigerator overnight. This is the recommended way to maintain sanitary conditions without losing taste.
    • Defrost tilapia fillets more quickly by placing the plastic container in a bowl and running cool water over them. Allow them to sit in the cool water for 20 minutes before cooking.

Prepare Ingredients

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius).
  2. Place a glass or cast iron baking dish on your counter.
    • Spray the cast iron or glass dish with cooking spray if you plan to use very little butter. This will result in a healthier tilapia recipe.
  3. Remove your fish fillets from the refrigerator. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  4. Place the fish fillets inside the baking dish.
  5. Mix your ingredients. You can alter the seasonings according to your preferences.
    • Mix 2 tbsp. (30ml) of melted butter with 1/4 tsp. (0.8g) of Old Bay Seasoning and 1/2 tsp. (1.6g) of garlic salt. Pour the mixture over the fillets. Sprinkle lemon juice on the top of them.
    • Mix 2 to 3 tbsp. (30 to 44ml) of melted butter with 2 tbsp. (30ml) of capers, 1.5 tsp. (3g) of garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. (1.6g) of oregano, 1/8 tsp. (0.4g) of paprika and 1/8 tsp. (0.4g) of salt. Add 3 tbsp. (44ml) of lemon juice. Pour the mixture over the fillets in the baking dish.
    • Mix 2 tbsp. (30ml) of olive oil with grated lemon or lime zest and 2 tbsp. (30ml) of citrus juice. Sprinkle the fillets with salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the fillets.
