Bake a Cake on Your Stovetop
Learn how to bake cake without an oven or microwave, with the help of cooking pots available in your kitchen.
Steps
- Turn on the big burner of your gas stove. It can go upon the small burner of your gas stove, if need be.
- Place your cooking pot on it. You can use a steel or aluminium big mouth cooking pot for baking, like - kadhai, big pan and dhokla maker. Now turn on flame and pre-heat your pot for five minutes
- Find something you can use as a baking mould. Any aluminium or steel pot of flat and thick bottom with big open mouth will do. You can even use a useless saucepan as a cake mould.
- Place the cake mould on rack. Dhokla racks are available with dhokla making pots, if you are using one, but if you are using any other cooking pot, then place a small plate upside down in the middle of your cooking pot.
- Put your cake batter into the mould. Then place the mould upon the stand/rack in cooking pot. Cover cooking pot with its lid and turn the flame to low.
- Bake your cake on low flame for 35 to 40 minutes, or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
Tips
- If any cake recipe calls to bake a cake for 35 minutes in oven or microwave then bake your cake also for 35 minutes.
Warnings
- If you are using steel cooking pot for baking or as a mould then pre-heat your cooking pot only for two minutes.
- If you are using half quantity of original cake recipe quantity, then pre-heat cooking pot only for two minutes.

- Never place cake mould direct upon the cooking pot bottom without a stand or plate.
