Be a Hero in Real Life

It may only seem like superheros lives in comic books, TV shows and movies, but there're already many people in our everyday lives who demonstrate heroism or undertake selfless acts. Such as dedicated police officers, paramedics and fire fighters who go out everyday, risking their own lives helping people and strangers whom they have never met from imminent danger. Despite it sometimes feeling like you couldn't do the same, there're still ways that many of us could become a hero or show heroic characteristics in real life that anyone can do.

Steps

  1. Determine if you really are up to the task of being a challenge. Because it can be a dangerous task being a hero and can even be life threatening as well.
  2. Never try to be a hero mostly for selfish reasons. Don't be a hero just so you could get publicity or because you wanted to be all that. Do it because you feel like it's the right thing to do.
  3. Quite often, the very first step of being a hero is being a good example by doing the right thing. Like as simple as helping people when they needed, or help people up if they tripped, or even help treat their wounds or call for an ambulance if they hurt themselves.
  4. You have to remember that every single life is important.
  5. If you see an incident that's currently happening, don't immediately get yourself into harms way. Sometimes there's a safer method of doing things that can be just as heroic as well. A good example would be:
    • Calling the police if you saw a store that is currently being robbed and get as much detailed information as you can by watching from a distance so you could report what you had saw.
    • Noticing and assisting someone who was alone but is injured, like severe burns, broken parts of the body such as limbs, arms or legs, or anything that prevented them from getting medical help on their own.
  6. If such possible medical situation arrives, try to take charge of a situation if medical help has not arrived yet. If you ever encounter such situation in the public, you don't necessarily need to have a large medical knowledge. You'll most likely just be recognized to show signs of heroic characteristics if you could somehow take control of such things and assisting people and letting them know what they should do until proper help arrives. During the process you might even be able to save the person's life if he or she was injured.
  7. Know your limits and knowing when to act is a must. Sometimes just thinking about the right time to act might not always be a good idea. If someone was pointing the gun at you for example, don't just risk other people's lives by trying to steal the gun from him or her. It'll risk them trying to shoot you and others around the vicinity. Also if you're not really all that physically healthy then the chance of unnecessary harm is greater.
  8. Exercise and maintain good health. Many times, if you want many people to look up to you then doing this might encourage them to do the same. Also, maintaining good health helps you become physically fit and will help improve your chance of assisting people more efficiently.
  9. Many times, being a hero or showing selfless heroic acts doesn't necessarily mean you have to get into harm's way or risking your life for someone else's. Many times just by assisting people whenever they needed, or without being asked, or even volunteering at an old folks home or other similar places and being a good role model by putting their needs ahead of your own is a good way to show selflessness. But don't do it if you just want do it for the thanks. Some good example of doing so would be:
    • Volunteering at an old folks home
    • Work at a homeless shelter area during Christmas time or free time
    • Work with the people who have mental and/or physical disabilities.
    • If you can afford it, donate to groups that help starving children or families from different countries that are much less fortunate, and possibly give them a greater chance to have a brighter future.
  10. Take up some sort of defensive class or a type of martial arts class. Knowing how to defend yourself and others is a good ability to learn because if and when you really do need to protect yourself and others, you need to act quickly and safely. But only use it as a last resort and don't just use it to try to heroically save others because doing so might lead to casualties.
  11. Risking or sacrificing your life for someone is honorable, but you have to know WHEN and HOW to act. Because, if you attempted to save someone at a wrong time and not knowing how to do so, the consequences most likely would be bad.
  12. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes, even every one of us who tries to help others needs help as well, and it wouldn't make you look less of a person. In fact, sometimes the right thing to do is to ask for help.
  13. Remember that being a good citizen and trying to be the hero is not everything. On those rare occasions, you can be a little bit selfish during your personal time, but can easily take it too far so approach with caution.

Tips

  • This is not a game, so you are not invincible, nor is anyone else around you. Once someone dies, you cannot magically bring them back by pressing some sort of reset button. So use good common sense when dealing with a dangerous situation.
  • Remember that if you're doing many selfless acts, some people will look up to you, so lead by being a good example.Being a good example is a good way to get people to do the same and is also a good step on becoming a hero or showing heroic acts.
  • Every single life is valuable.

Warnings

  • Don't get cocky, obnoxious, or immediately act like you're all that just because you're a hero. Those usually will turn people off and makes you look less like a hero and more like a low level creep.
  • In order to be a hero, you have to understand that you also needed to put your life on the line only IF and WHEN the appropriate time arises, don't just risk your life and possibly others just to try to be the hero.
  • This is not a video game. So you won't get a 2nd chance of life, so don't get cocky when you try to handle a dangerous situation yourself.
  • Remember that killing and murdering people is illegal so don't do it just out of pure spite. Only do it if it's absolutely necessary and in self defense for you or even for people that needed it. Otherwise you'll be charged for murder.
