Tips

  • Have fun!
  • If your gym time is light on strength conditioning, you can condition at home, too. Strength becomes more and more important with each new gymnastics level.
  • Make sure to stretch at home, especially if you aren't very flexible. It will make practice much easier.
  • Transition to any level is easier when you have mastered the progressive skills from the previous level.
  • It doesn't matter if you can't make a skill when you move. Just stretching at home can make your flexibility much better. Just moving up can give you the confidence to make it easier.
  • If you were on a level 4 team, many of the skills are similar. Some are: beam handstand, turns, front hip circles, leaps, many dance poses. Other skills are buildups or progressions to another skill. Some examples are: back extensions (was push up at level 3, now handstand at level 4), handstands and beam dismounts (you just have to hold it longer), glide/kip, back hip circle on low bar/high bar, kickover/back walkover, progression from flat fall to handspring on vault, progression from one back handspring to two.
  • Make sure that even if these new skills are hard, you commit and most importantly, listen to what your coach has to say.
  • Warm up before you start.

Warnings

  • Do not do anything new or difficult without a coach.
