Be an Awesome Kickball Player

Kickball playing is fun but if you take it really seriously, you can turn fun into being an awesome player. Follow these suggestions to turn your love of kickball into a serious art.

Steps

Handling the pressure

  1. Relax. Don't put Deal With Pressure in Sports on yourself all of the time. It's fine to be competitive but be realistic about what you can achieve. Also, while it is important work to improve on your weaknesses, it is more important to really focus on your strengths and bring those forth, as these will gain you the confidence to be a good player.

Better techniques

  1. Run fast around the bases. The fielding team will probably try to tag you out.
  2. Kick the ball hard. Try to drive the ball into the outfield for the possibility of extra bases.
  3. Try to catch balls, especially when playing in the outfield. Don't let it slip out of your hands.

Kicking the ball

  1. Kick with your toes pointing down.
  2. Use the top part of your foot (laces). Kick the ball on the top of your shoe, it will go higher and farther. If you kick on the front of your shoe, it won't go high or very far.
  3. When the pitcher pitches the ball observe if the ball bounces. If it does, that is good. When the ball is not touching the ground, kick it.
  4. Aim for where there is a bad player or where there is nobody.
  5. Kick as hard as you can. Kick with confidence.

Throwing the ball

  1. Throw the ball to the nearest person. Or, if you can, throw it to one of the people near the pitcher.
  2. Throw straight and don't bounce the ball. This can give a boost to the players running the bases.
  3. Throw as best as you can. You can practice throwing at home or at a local park to improve your technique.
  4. Catch the ball with your body instead of your hands.

Team spirit

  1. Don't tell your teammates not to mess up. That sort of talk can make them nervous and they might fulfill it and mess up.
  2. Support your teammates. If your teammate gets an out, don't make them mad by saying something mean. It can cause a lot of your teammates to get their head out of the game and mess up. Moreover, you'll get an out sometimes too, and you'd want your team having your back.
  3. Expect the opposing team to try to unnerve you. That's their role, just as it's yours to do the same back. Don't be afraid of the other team. Ignore their tactics and just keep playing well.

Tips

  • Try your best. Don't let your other teammates do all the work.
  • Play fair. No one wants to play with a cheater!
  • Use variety. If you have kicked hard multiple times in a row, try throwing a soft kick in. This will confuse the other team and give you time to make it to a base.
  • Surprise your opponents. Do something they don't expect. If they think you are going to barely tap it, kick it out of the park.
  • When the pitcher messes up the pitch, catch the ball and look apologetic. Then, kick the ball the second time, even if the pitch is bad. Again, this will confuse the other team and give you the opportunity to get to a base.
  • When you kick the ball make sure it goes up and not full forward, because if it goes forward someone may catch it.
  • Don't give up. If you think you are going to lose, you will play worse. Be positive.
  • Try not to kick the ball very high; your main focus should be on length.

Warnings

  • Do not throw balls at anyone, if it misses they will run farther.
  • If some one is chasing you to tag you out, don't run backwards, because when they tag you, you're going to fall backwards onto the hard ground.
  • Don't try sliding on blacktop. It hurts!
