Beat Blissey in Pokémon

Every one of us has played Pokémon as a child, and encountered a particularly annoying Pokémon. In competitive battling though, almost every single Pokémon is raised to thrash opponents. Blissey is a Pokémon whose stats give it the ability to be an incredible pain for your team. So much so, that it has been placed in the same category such as Alakazam and Latias by the players in previous generations. It has been somewhat overshadowed by Eviolite Chansey, but still has it's uses. However, no Pokémon is perfect. Read on to exploit Blissey's weakness, and defeat her.

Steps

  1. Do not attempt to fight with a special sweeper. Blissey has a Special Defense (Sp.Def) stat which almost equals her monstrous HP. So, special attacks in general won't even leave a scratch.
  2. Opt for strong physical based attacks. Blissey has the highest HP stat in the entire game, even with a pathetic defense stat, she'll most likely survive a physical hit. As well as that, competitive players will usually EV train Blissey's Defense so it is much more likely to survive a physical hit. If you don't kill it fast enough, your team could easily be in danger..
  3. Know that physical attackers aren't enough. You need to make use of the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). Fighting Pokémon have high attack stats and also have a type advantage against Blissey. It has Softboiled, Toxic, Thunder Wave, Heal Bell, Seismic Toss and so many other support moves that it can survive for an excruciatingly long amount of time.
  4. Be ready for a long fight. It may take a while to bring her down. But, Fighting type Pokémon using Close Combat or Focus Punch will undoubtedly send it to the Pokémon Center.
  5. Beware of support moves! Blissey has access to Softboiled, Toxic, Thunder Wave, Heal Bell and many other support moves, and can survive for an excruciatingly long amount of time. She may also have Seismic Toss, which will do either 50 or 100 damage to you no matter what.
  6. Be strategic with what you use. Some Pokémon along with the moves to use are as follows:
    • Lucario using Close Combat
    • Machamp/Machoke using Cross Chop
    • Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee using Sky Uppercut/Hi Jump Kick.
  7. Continue to use your strong Fighting-Types to bring her down. You can also put her to sleep or toxic her to make the process less tedious.

Tips

  • Many players opt to make Blissey hold a recovery item such as Leftovers that recover Blissey's HP a bit every turn. This will toughen the battle a bit!
  • In competitive battling, players will always boost Blissey's High Special Defense and Defense stats to the max so that Blissey takes hits better. They will also practically always have Soft-Boiled or Wish and a status affecting move like Toxic or Thunder Wave
  • Blissey is always female, if you can get a male Pokémon to use attract one her, it will cripple her significantly.
  • Blissey will do chunks of your damage with Seismic Toss once it gets it's status up.
  • If you can predict when Blissey will using a healing move, you can have a Fighting-Type Pokémon use Focus Punch and likely OHKO her.

Warnings

  • Try to avoid using Special Attacks.
